I am having problems with a new build and I do not know if it is the motherboard or whether the memory is causing problems. The problem I am having is that although I can get into the Bios that is about all I can do as anything else is totally unstable.

I have tried running the Windows install CD and that blue screened with a page fault. I have tried running DOS utility programs and those freeze and lock up. I have tried memtest from a floppy and that froze on test 4 but with no errors reported.

It could be the memory or the motherboard or possibly the PSU but I don't think it is that.

So far I have made sure the memory voltage is 2.1V, and set the memory to 5-5-5-18, but anything more than that I am not too familiar with. I have also tried setting the memory to 667 rather than 1066 to sync it with the fsb, keeping the voltage at 2.1V.

The instability has occurred when not much is being done by the CPU or graphics card so there should not be all that much power being drawn. Hopefully the PSU is powerful enough for the stuff that I use.

Has anyone successfully used this memory with this motherboard or one of the other X48 models? Is so what settings did you need to use to make it stable?

Hi RedDwarf

blue screen errors typically come from memory problem.

First please try to upgrade bios of your mb into the newest one F6b from below location:

http://www.giga-byte.co.uk/Support/Motherboard/BIOS_DownloadFile.aspx?FileType=BIOS&FileID=13499

If above does not help then you should consider trying other memory modules vendor, which operates at 1.8 V instead of 2.1 V.
ZX-S & C64 are still my favourites ;-)

Iam can not stable memory with all   seri DDR2 PC8500 (1066 mhz) more.
Iam test with OCZ DDR2 Reaper X PC8500 , OCZ DDR2 FLEX II pc9200 (1150 MHZ) ,Crucial Ballistix Tracer 2X2g PC8500 1066 ,Corsair 4096MB (4 x 1024MB) PC2-8500 1066Mhz DDR2 RAM - 5-5-5-15 - Dominator.
Iam  using memtest 86 (dos ), memtest (windown) and pcmark2008 test memory :
- Pass Bus 800 (all cas 4 & 5) memory multy :4 but  over 860 mhz fail
- Memory multiplier 3.33 /3.1 / 3 / 2.5 /2.4 /2  fail all test  with memtest86 ,memtest ,and pcmark 2005 (memory test)
my setting :   5-5-5-18  advanced timing  all auto (vdim ok)
Please test your produc with any DDr2 4g pc 8500 +  and help me fix prolem or fix in next  bios

I also have a X48-DQ6 with a 9450 on it, and a hd4870 and 4 disks in raid 0.
And I have the same memory as you have but then 8gb total.
The thing on stock took about 650 a 700 watt to post, and to go into windows.

take a look on my thread on ocz, hope it will help you.

have been spending 2 days to find out that my psu (real power 700watt) wasn't taking it because I also thought it was my memory,  now I got a 1200 watt and everything is running smooth and overclocked.
