video playback jerking

I have problems playing back video files on my computer. I get hesitations and jerking no matter which software I use to play them back including Media Player. I use this computer strictly for video editing. I work with Adobe Premiere pro CS5 and the format of my video files is a high def format, AVCHD. Here are the config of my computer. Windows 7 professional 64 bit, Gigabyte X58A-UD3R, Intel i7 920@2.67 GHZ 4 core 8 logical, 16 Gb OCZ ram memory, GTX 285 video card, Three Samsung HD102SJ SATA hard drives 1 TB each. One of them is for the operating system and the other two I configured them as raid 0 for storage and file swapping, etc.
According to the Adobe support team I should not be having this playback problem with a computer with these kind of specifications and they think that the problem might be motherboard or hard drive settings or hardware compatibility related . So I just joined this forum and I hope somebody can finally help me to solve my problem. Thank you, Umberto.

It sounds like it could be caused by latency problems. I wouls suggest download and run dpclatency checker from

http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml

leave it running and thenkeep an eye on it while you are using your rograms that have a problem and see if the bars go out of the green level.

Unfortunately when I run the latency program everything looks perfect. However I am not sure I am using the latency checker correctly. While the video playback is running if I try to maximize the latency program, so I can visualize what's happening, the video playback stops. It works only if I keep the latency checker minimized. My question is does the program still work when it's minimized?
I am very frustrated about this problem. Do you think that it could be my hard drives not fast enough? Thank you, umberto.

You are not using Green hard drives are you ?

I cannot speak for the spec but what Adobe say is not what used to be advised.

It used to be the case that this was recommended with NLE video work:-

HDD1 for OS and programs
HDD2 for source video files
HDD3 for scratch and maybe even the OS page file location.

Rendering of video files was/is very processor, RAM and HDD intensive and the workload is much reduced if the the Editing program, source files and scratch are kept separate.  Using the same HDD for both soure and scratch/swap makes for one heck of lot read & writes and do  recall correctly that RAID 0 is two (or more) disks striped as a single disk so your data could be anywhere over many platters and even split across two physical hard drives???

Yes I would agree with what you said there Searcher and was always what we were told. It probably wouldn't hold true if you were using SSDs though as the latency is practically non existant on them.

Thank you for your help. I think  I am going to reconfigure my Hard drives. Should I make them all AHCI or IDE?

Well as a general rule you will get better performance out of them in AHCI mode. The only exception to this is some optical drives that perfom better and more stably under IDE.
