X58A-UD3R : Win 7 + 5.1 = Rear Speakers not working

X58A-UD3R : Win 7 + 5.1 = Rear Speakers not working
« on: May 09, 2011, 03:27:24 am »
Basically, I want to know if people know some fixes for this. I currently have the next hardware

Currently I have installed the driver "Realtek High Definition Audio R2.60", which I found in Realtek's website. I have tried to two drivers from Gigabyte, which were version R2.46 and R2.54.

Also another thing to note, when I do the "test" the rear speakers doesn't work. I changed the cables (rear to center) to test the speakers and they worked fine. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi

Your piccy wasn't a lot of help to be fair but I think I understand what yopu mean anyway. I have a similar problem on my X58A-UD7 in so much as I have to plug in my rear speakers as normal but in software run them as  the side(surround) speakers. I reckon this is because it is 7.1  not 5.1.

I have tried both 5.1 and 7.1 and none works (neither the Side pair or Rear pair). Problem is that it doesn't work on the testing phase, meaning that it won't work with any application.

Have you tried removing all the speaker cables and then re-inserting them one by one and letting the system find them as you do so ?

Get a Soundblaster X-fi ( Fatality) and you will be much happier, put it in the PCI express slot and install the Software, forget about the onboard sound. Realtek gives a lot of trouble with the rear speakers. It's notorious for that. There is in the software of the Soundblaster a way to set the speakers as you want them. And the sound is way deeper, bigger and better. You will be asking yourself why did you not do that in the first place. I mean I did. I thought the onboard sound was reasonable, but it is bad compared to a good Creative Soundblaster, Asus Sonar or even an Auzentech.

Just go for it. You won't look back. Expect your ears to having a treat.
