GA-EX58-UD3R Rev 1.6 | IDE hard drive not waking from hybrid sleep / Win 7 64

I have 4 Internal hard drives and only 1 of them is IDE (slave storage drive) whenever my PC goes to sleep and I goto wake it up the IDE drive is no longer accessible, If I try to access it the HD light remains stuck lit and windows freezes for several seconds, also I cannot shutdown or reboot properly after waking from sleep due to this problem (it gets stuck during shutdown screen etc.) I have to do a hard reset or hold power button to power off.

Windows is fully updated and running service pack 1.

AHCI mode is enabled in BIOS.

I noticed the Maxtor IDE drive is listed as an SCSI device but not sure if there's any significance to that?

The IDE drive works fine before going to sleep and doesnt report any SMART errors.

Any ideas appreciated!

I'm far from being an expert like others on this site, so these are only suggestions.......mixing different hardware can always be problematic, with hard drive prices being at an all time low, a brand new SATA drive of the same capacity would be around the £30 mark allowing you to run All SATA drives and fix your current problem......Don't buy greens unless you understand how they work!

Another option if it's only a backup drive is simply to unplug it when not in use and reattach (Power connector or /and data cable) when a backup write is required.

Disabling sleep mode under Power management is option 3 unless this is a feature you enjoy using........odds on it's a driver issue ......... depending on the drive (IDE) you may be able to download a diagnostic app from the HDD suppler to test the individual unit for a hardware error/s .... if it's a driver issue ... better people then I will eventually respond with some more suggestions.

Generally good advice there from Allan I would certainly say there is no real point now in using PATA drives any more and mixing the two specs is often problematic.

Possible solution is to use an ATA133 to SATA adapter ??

You have also some jumpers ( test as primary / slave / cable select  ) ...

I never had problems running a mix of SATA / IDE on my previous AMD setup with an Asus mobo but I plan on replacing the IDE drive with SATA pretty soon, I was just hoping to fix it for now.

Thanks for the suggestions I'll check the jumper and see if maybe that would help I'm not 100% what its even set at right now.

Problem solved! The drive was set on Cable select and connected as Slave, I changed the jumper to Master and no more sleep problems, Thanks for the suggestion F5BJR, +1 karma :)
