MA78LMT-S2 Problems Please Help
« on: May 25, 2011, 02:00:25 pm »
Hi All

I dont know whats going on and Im panicing..

I just put together this new build:

AMD Phenom II 955
A-Ram Ice 2x2gb DDR1600
Gigabyte MA78LMT-S2
ATi HD5770
500gb HDD
500w PSU

I dont know whats going on... It will be working alright but then it will just turn off... And when I turn it on again it will begin to do long beeps continously until I turn it off...

I have reset the bios 3 times now, which fixes is for a while but then it does it again... I cant even finish a windows installation, I get right to the point of going to your new desktop and it will do it...

Ive also had a few BSOD during the windows stuff...

I have taken out the GPU numerous times, I have reseated the ram numerous times, I put the power cords in numerous times...

What am I missing what is going on?

Im building this for a mate so Im doubly not happy since its his money but nothing is working right...

Any help would be appreciated...

Hi there,

A couple of things to check, 1st which BIOS version are you running? If it is not the latest version then I would suggest you update it if only to eliminate that as the cause.

If/when BIOS is updated run MemTest on your RAM to make sure that it is OK.

Try installing the OS with only one of the sticks of RAM installed as this can sometimes help.
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

 Besides what absic said

Above all,  Don't panic......beeps are good......now tell all of us exactly what you hear.......is it a number of beeps,How many per cycle, or is it one long continuous beep.

On boot its says the Bios is F13 which I think is the newest one...

Ill try the ram things tonight when I get home...

The beep... Its long beeps repeated continously...

Like it will beep for 2-3 seconds, then stop then another 2-3 second beep then stop rinse and repeat until I turn the computer off...

Last night before I went to bed it started doing this:

I turned it on again after setting all the volts, timming etc to what the ram is... And now its sitting in startup and it says:

"verifiying DMI pool data....... AMD Data change... Undate New Data to DMI!... Begin to update Backup Bios to latest version... Writing Bios Image........................."

And its been sitting there like this for a few minutes... It also flashed some random digits across the screen while sitting there like this (this is not in bios... actually wait one Ill take a photo)

Where having trouble here!.... So are you saying it's one long , continues beep.........8 short ones then a break...........11 short then a break........it might even be a combination of long and short.........what I'm trying to say is it will be quite specific in the Beep code it gives you........you have to be specific and listen.

Um...

The beep is long (at least 2 seconds)... And all the beeps are the same length, although I havent listened up to anything like 11 or 12 beeps I usually turn it off after like 4 or 5...

In text its like this lol:

beeeeeeeeeeeeeep   beeeeeeeeeeeeeep    beeeeeeeeeeeeeep   beeeeeeeeeeeeeep   beeeeeeeeeeeeeeep and then I usually turn it off... Im at work right now but when I get home Ill let it beed and leave it beeping and count how many if it stops...

Just a gut feeling, when you get home........try reseating the video card and do the same for the memory, Give it a right good wiggle and make sure the lock bars are well home, then try and boot again........you never know!

Ive removed the video card and Im just using onboard at the moment (to eliminate the video card out of the equation) so its not the GPU...

Im gonna pull the whole lot apart again tonight.

Update.

The beeping hasnt come back yet... Ive been trying to run Prime to test is but it crashes each time, Ive even tried with only one ram stick in and in slot 2...

So I got his ram... And put it into my computer (which works mint)... I ran Prime Blend for half n hour and it passed sweet as...

I then ran Memtest86 with his ram (in my working computer) it also passed...

However I put my ram into the problem machine and it still crashed in Prime...

So I guess we can safely assume that its not the ram that is bad, which only leaves the motherboard and the processor...

Correct-amundo  not Memory.....I'm starting to think you may have a bent pin or two under the CPU.......check.....there tinny buggers, you might need a good light and magnifying glass of some description.

 Absic , any idea?

Hi there,

sorry but I am confused. If you tried different RAM and your PC works OK but won't work with original RAM then the problem is most likely to be with the RAM.

Just to try and clarify things a little could you answer these questions:
Problem PC won't work with current setup - Yes/No?
Problem PC will work with your friend's RAM - Yes/No?
You have another PC that is working fine and you have tried RAM from that machine in problem PC - Yes/No?
Have you tried a different PSU in problem PC - Yes/No?

Continuous long beeps would normally point to a graphics issue.
Continuous short beeps would indicate a power problem.
However, just to confuse things a little more there have been several instances where continuous beeps are indicating a Memory issue.

EDIT:- AA bent pins are not normally an issue on AMD systems as the pins are actually part of the CPU and if they become bent the processor won't fit in the socket.
