GA-870A-USB3: Standby Problem

Hi,

I've just upgraded my pc to the GA-870A-USB3 (Rev 3.1, R4 bios) motherboard with AMD X6 1090T and Corsair Vengeance RAM (2x4GB). All windows updates have been installed in addition to the chipset drivers etc.

It has been running fine all day until I decided to leave it a while and put it into standby (S3), came back and it didn't resume from either keyboard or power button presses. Even after flicking the switch on and off It still wouldn't power up. I managed to power it on after re-inserting the 24pin connector.

Upon starting I got a "Main bios checksum error" message and the bios was recovered, it then continued to startup. I checked all the bios settings and could not find anything out of the ordinary. I then tried standby again and it did the same thing all over again, but it once did it without the checksum error.

The board has the latest bios and I'm using windows 7 sp1 64bit. I'm wondering if there is a cause for this or if it is a faulty motherboard. I use standby often so I would very much like to have the functionality.

It is most likely due to an unstable setup or component. Try running Memtest 86+ like this:

I would suggest that you download and run the latest version of  Memtest86+ to check your RAM first.

Memtest86+        http://www.memtest.org/

Insert one stick of memory in slot 1 and run Memtest on it for at least 10 complete loops/cycles and if there are no errors then swap it over with the next one and continue untill you have checked all  modules.
 
If you have any errors the module is faulty.

If you have any faulty modules you will have to return the whole kit as they are matched.

Post back when you have done that with the results.

Silly question but.........

Have you checked the Wake options are set correctly in BIOS? If you are using a PS/2 Keyboard or mouse you will need to make sure these are enabled as they are set to disabled by default.

Check your settings in Windows 7 (under Control Panel/System and Security/Power Settings) as these will also need to be checked that they are set properly. Also, if you are running a ATI graphics and have installed the latest drivers check under Catalyst Control Centre as there are now Power Setting Options there, which seem to override the Windows Settings (This one caught me out!)

I've run just over 2 passes on the RAM for both modules. No errors on either of them. I could do it for 10 but I don't have the patience, will probably do that overnight if I have to. I've done some stress testing on the pc and it had no trouble.

The keyboard/mouse are usb and that was the first thing I checked for, but all settings look fine, but that doesn't explain why it would't resume with the actual power button 

For the windows power settings all i changed was to put the display to sleep after 10 minutes and the computer to sleep never (I sleep manually). The same settings are replicated in catalyst. Are there any other specific settings I've missed out?

The psu (520w corsair) and HDD are the same as what was in before the upgrade so I can't see it being anything to do with that.

The hard drive  and the rest might be the same but the overal settings have probably changed.

A fresh install of Windows 7 was done so it's using all the correct drivers.

I've taken a few photos of the bios settings, as you can see most setting are default/auto. The exact Corsair Model number of the RAM is CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B.
