x58a-ud5 ver 2.0 - USB keyboard / mouse loses power, can't get into bios afterwa

This board has been working great, although I was able to fix the blue screen issue by uninstalling the Gigabyte ON/OFF software, for some reason, I seem to sometimes lose power to my input devices.  I thought it was my kvm switch (Iogear - GCS634U), but when I plugged my keyboard and mouse into the computer directly, I still seem to have lost power to either my keyboard, mouse or both.  I have changed the mouse and keyboard to different usb slots with the same results, although when I do have some functionality of my input devices, I find that Intel(R) ICH10 Family USB Enhanced Host Controller -3A3A and 3A3C have a code 43, even when I plug them into the front usb slots from the usb headers.

However, after I lose power and then power down the machine by pressing the power button for 5 seconds and then turn it back on, I am unable to get into bios as the keyboard and mouse seem to be unresponsive and do not receive power until Windows get to the login screen.

Only after when I take the button battery out and then switch the power off, holding the power button for 60 seconds and then come back after an hour I power the machine back up and then I am able to boot back into bios using the keyboard.  The settings that I change is the memory, using the xmp profile.  I also change to not show the gigabyte splash screen on start up, and to view the screen on the PCI-E 1 slot, and to enable the raid.  I also have been turning on legacy mode for keyboard, mouse and usb storage, if that was the problem, but it still persists.

Mouse:  Logitech G5
Keyboard:  Microsoft Wired Keyboard 600
Intel Core i7-950 Bloomfield 3.06GHz LGA 1366 ...
GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD5 LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA ... <--- Version FD, It used to be FB
CORSAIR Enthusiast Series CMPSU-850TX 850W ...
DDR3 12GB (3x4GB) 1600MHz Viper II Sector 7 Series Patriot PV7312G1600ELK
Fractal Design Define XL Black ATX Full Tower Silent ...

I have not changed the power settings, for USB settings USB selective suspend setting is enabled.  Not too sure if that is causing it, but I would think that I should still be able to boot into bios without wiping the bios and starting over?

Any insight is appreciated and thank you in advance!

This is why I have an old (but working) PS2 keyboard and mouse handy for when USB connectivity goes tits-up......I remember reading something similar of late and the Logitech drivers have issues under windows 7.......cant quite remember the fix but this will get you started .... as alway, when you get back in update all drivers, especially Logitech and Realtek....hope this helps.

Hi

I don't know if you are trying to use the USB3 ports but if so move the connector to a USB2.0 port.

I would also recommend clearing the CMOS.

Remove the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.

Once done remove the motherboard battery for at least one hour before replacing it.

Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.

You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Optimised BIOS Defaults.

Make any other changes to the BIOS settings to suit your self like disabling the floppy drive, disabling the full screen logo and making the HDD the primary boot device and then press F10 to save and exit.

I plugged it into the back port that is a usb2.0 port and so far it seems like I haven't lost my mouse and keyboard - I'll try to plug both my mouse and keyboard into the kvm now and have the kvm plug into the usb2.0 port and test it out like this.  If it dies, I'll chalk it up to the kvm, and see if I can buy a different one.

For some reason, today, when I replugged my printer back in and using the usb 3.0 port, it tells me that this device can perform faster if it is plugged into a hi speed port?  Did I miss installing something for the usb 3.0 port?

Thank you for your help!  :)

Sounds just like a missing or corrupt driver issue.

I looked at the driver version that I had, and it was 1.0.18.0, published 11/20/2009.. I went to the driver website, and got the updated driver, although when I installed it, it tells me it's called a Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller and Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Hub...  I looked it up, and I guess NEC was absorbed.

It seems that my more important problem is fixed, as it seems that my keyboard and mouse haven't lost power yet, although the "This device can perform faster" message keeps popping up - the two usb 3.0 ports have two peripherals plugged in, one is a cyberpower 550VA, and my HP Photosmart D7460.

Hrm.  I just got a popup from the front USB port that my Zune can perform faster if it is plugged into a high speed port... isn't the usb headers hi-speed?

I looked on the device manager and it says that Zune is on the Intel(R) ICH10 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 3A34

And the generic usb hub is on 3A37.. not too sure why it's doing that..

I think it would be worth checking in the BIOS to make sure that the USB ports are set to hi speed. The front ports should be hi speed also.

I looked on the newegg website, and the Fractal Design Define XL Black ATX Full Tower specs say the front usb ports are 2.0.

I looked in the BIOs, but didn't see anything about setting USB ports to hi speed.  :(

Thinking about buying a usb hub so that can avoid using the usb 3.0 ports.  :)

That would be one possible option I guess. For the price of a hub it would be worth trying.
