Bulldozer-Zambezi latest

News to me, is the word that AMDs new architecture will allow a single thread to run across two cores, this could be the reason for the slight delay in a firm release date......and pricing is starting to firm up with $320us price tag for the black edition.......this will probably mean a price for the UK market after conversion of about £350....looks like it'll be in a metal tin to boot to keep your biscuits in afterwards ..... Either way, it's been a long time coming , but with the eminent release of Intels 6 then 8 core Processors........2011/2012 is shaping up to be the clash of the Titans

Anyway hear is some short reads that I found worthy of my time for the AMD junkies

That's interesting and I have to say that even if the 8 core doesn't live up to the speculation it will be worth getting just so I have somewhere to keep my biscuits!  :D

I can't contain myself any longer NDA or not...........I got an Engineering sample 5 days ago people, ... I haven't completed full testing yet, but early results suggest it beat the living daylights out of Intel's current offering.......who'd of thought a metal box could keep biscuits so fresh!

Of course you do and you also need to make sure the power connectors are properly attached.

Typical, you Aussies no absolutely bugger all when it comes to using biscuit tins!

Back in the days when I was a lad, there was a new long playing gramophone record released by Mike Oldfield called Tubular Bells. This LP was recorded in Quadrophonic rather than stereo sound and I can still remember part of the disclaimer written in small type in the bottom corner on the back of the album sleeve. It stated:
Quote
This album should not be played on old tin boxes no matter what type of cartridge is fitted!

Now this impressed me as I hadn't consider the consequences of using an old tin box fitted with even a highly spec'd cartridge, (for those not in the know the cartridge in question was the diamond stylus that Vinyl records use for playing back the recording) or the subsequent loss in sound to the audio reproduction. When I actually managed to play this album on a quadrophonic sound system the difference was quite amazing and I have to say that by today standards it is the difference between Stereo and Dolby Digital 5.1 Audio.

I have carried this advice with me throughout the years and have applied it to many situations and the same advice is very pertinent when talking about PC's. For example one could say:
Quote
This motherboard will only function to the specified standard if it is fitted with the correct components. It can not be expected to work properly if you shove any old bits into it!

I reckon Gigabyte, AMD, Intel, ATI, NVidia and all other PC hardware manufacturers should add such a disclaimer on all their packaging!  :D

Never a truer word absic. I can never understand why someone will pay out for a good motherboard or what have you and then try and skimp and save on half the other components.  ::)

Tubular Bells...........Woo! ... I remember my Granddad telling me about that!,.....Only joking , ...had it my self, That and "Blue Moves" Elton John were my favourites and played a big part in my appreciation of music........ Appreciation of Computers came much later pulling apart guidance systems out of AIM-9 SideWinders......or was it Television sets...... Oh well, ...Can't remember now!

Unfortunately your right with the plentiful supply of cheap PC components flooding the market at present, Old and new for that matter!

Even Aria have a promo ATM offering £1 per Gb on SSds.... but I can't talk too loudly ... last year I purchased a new lot of 10 units of 500Gb  Spinpoints  (501LJ) and paid 3.6 pence per gig.......they run OK but there not SSD or SATA III.

What could be really interesting is a data base of some description put together by member, for members as to the best components to marry up with gigabyte boards.

You could even break it up into  a couple of classes with "Best Bang For Buck".........."Best performance" and "best budget parts" .... let me know your thoughts and I might do a little investigating into the feasibility.

Yes, I think this would be a good idea Allan and is something I have been looking into myself.  :)

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! Bar getting you round to my place to show you my etchings and shark bite....   :o .... maybe you could PM me with the format you were considering and I could possibly add some ideas for you / and or data,... or split the load somehow amongst a few people, could be interesting using a few polls to gather some data although polls seem to be flat in response on this forum....very frustrating, polls can be fantastic earners if you can get people to use them.

There was a monthly PC Magazine in OZ that did a two page spread that ended up so popular, people would buy it just for those two pages.....

Split into 3 horizontal columns, indexed vertically  First was the three Main-boards (Vertically), Budget 1, intermediate (bang for buck) 2, and Extreme 3. ....... Next would be CPU.....then Memory and so on , I actually used it for shopping a few times and it saved me worry about compatibility and Fun tickets
