570 SOC not posting fans at 100%
« on: June 16, 2011, 07:26:41 pm »
I just switched my ref 570 for a Gigabyte 570 SOC today and it worked fine for around 3 hours but now when ever i restart the machine or start the machine from a cold boot im greeted with a blank screen with the GPU fans spinning at 100%.

Now the funny thing is the GPU isn't completely broken

If i switch the PSU off at the back and wait 10 seconds and try again after 3-4 attempts the system boots fine and the GPU seems fine as well as i am able to game etc without problems and i can reboot a couple of times without problems as well.

But then out of the blue the problem will start again on the next reboot or cold start

So what do you think is the problem is?

I have made sure the 8 & 6 pin PCI-E connectors are in securely and my PSU is the Corsair AX850 so i don't think that's the problem either

My specs are i7 920 @ 4.2, P6T Deluxe V2, 6GB Corsair XMS 1600 C8, 1xSSD 3xHDD Win7 64

I would hate to have RMA it and get something else
The card is awesome when it works
stock core @ 845Mhz @ 0.975v and a max temp of 63c after 1 hour of playing Crysis 2 and i havent even tried to OC yet

Hi

I expect it is the usual problem of a mass produced overclock being applied. Just doesn't work 100% of the time. It is better to use a bog standard card and overclock it yourself.

Try downclocking it to stock levels  and see if the problem still exists.

Thanks for the reply but i don't think you understand the problem im having

the problem is i get no display and the fans spin at 100% during the post stage after i cold boot or reboot my system

during the post stage any pre applied overclock wont make any difference as the card will only run at those speeds when its in windows with the drivers loaded

card performs fine when i manage to boot it into windows

With twelve and a half THOUSAND posts! DM know EXACTLY what the problem is...... If you want a second opinion, here's mine.....

I expect it is the usual problem of a mass produced overclock being applied. Just doesn't work 100% of the time. It is better to use a bog standard card and overclock it yourself.

Try downclocking it to stock levels  and see if the problem still exists.........I'm not being funny, well not much anyway, ... this mirrors my views as well to the letter.........in effect your card is bustered!   ...  or ... "Does not perform to the pre defined over-clock standard , pre-set at the Factory prior to distrbution"

Problems at boot just confirms the memory or core has sustained damage as a result of the high OC settings.....is this clearer!

during the post stage the card runs at the lowest performance level which is 51mhz same thing happens if the drivers are not installed

so like i said before the pre-applied overclock wont make any difference.... as its only 51mhz during boot up and during boot up is when im having this problem

and even if the preapplied overclock was causing the problem can you please explain how i am supposed to downclock the card during post without any operation system loaded?

and when i do manage to get it to boot the card works 100% as i have played crysis 2 and the witcher 2 for hours without any problems so the overclock isnt causing the problem

i suspect the card might need a bios update as the current one has a issue with cold booting

not that im having a go at you guys or anything its just it seems you didnt even read my post and just replied with a generic cut and paste solution to the problem

Fair enough, on reflection the answer probably wasn't correct but I can assure you that I read every question and there are no cases of just copy and paste any old answer in to the thread.

not that im having a go at you guys or anything its just it seems you didnt even read my post and just replied with a generic cut and paste solution to the problem

Now I know why I post replys in my own free time, .... this a community forum, no one gets paid, we can't afford form letters, and this is not the first SOC issue I have ever seen!....... When you get it booted up next time, install Gigabytes "Easy tune" clocking facility, this should allow you to drop the setting down say 10%....if that does not work try going back to a stock card setting.......GPU BIOS flashing is not straight forward but there's oodles of tutorials if you goggle....to long to post here!

If down-clocking fixes your issue, you still have the original problem, which is .........You still don't have the card you paid for.....which means an RMA
If it does not fix the problem...........it still could be the card......or drivers..........or hardware!

The best bit of advice I can give you to move forward is put it in a mates PC and test the card at the same settings and same game. And YES! I read all posts from tip to tail........Now for the Humour with a message......When my pet Budgie developed Brain cancer, I asked for a second opinion !
It was still brain cancer.........I loved that Budgie so much I ignored the advice of not one but two people........My budgie still died!  ;D

 Have a great day.........Aussie Allan

Man...I'm having the EXACT same problem........ :o

My PC config is almost the same as well.
I've put in a ticket with the Gigabyte support...still waiting on a response.

The worst part is I'm having bad luck with hardware.
I bought an MSI 6970 Lightning previous to this and that card would give black screens and freeze my PC.

But what I really hate is people who post threads and don't come back and leave an update for the rest of us :(

I do understand your feelings there as do most of us I am sure, but it is just the way of many people and it is usually not done with any malicious intent purely that they have fixed their problem and are happily using their system now without a thought that someone else might like to know how.

I would add that if you are using the latest driver pack then that could be the source of your problems as apparently they are a bit buggy according to reports.

Hello french guy :)
Yeah but you don't have the same video card as I do.  :(

My card hasn't had any problems ~_~
Perhaps the bios rollback that I did on my gigabyte motherboard fixed things...I hope.

Well the card failed to boot again today.
This was the response I got from gigabyte tech support last time:
Quote
Dear Customer,

That relates to the video error code, have you tried moving the card over to the 2nd PCIe slot to test the results?
Also for the driver please use the latest directly off nvidia website and test with DX10 instead of DX10 by removing it and reloading DX10

What? lol of course I tested on a different slot ~_~

Here's a video of it :P
http://youtu.be/Vg8Fmg2s5ok

I think it's time to send it back.  :-\

Why do you want it if you have a different card than me?
