Z68X-UD7-B3 Intel RRT start up error
« on: July 01, 2011, 08:55:32 pm »
Hi, 1st post ;-)
I just got a GB Z68X-UD7-B3 mobo, and also a OCZ Agility 3 60GB SSD to go with it knowing about intel rapid storage technology (Smart Response Technology)
I basically followed the instructions for installation for installing windows for use with IRRT in the GB video on it, changing the "PCH SATA controller mode" to RAID(XHD) before installing windows...
did all that, got windows up and going with all my stuff (steam, Paint shop, GB drivers and full update etc) and then turned on IRRT and all worked perfectly fine until I restarted my PC, and got THIS during boot up... basically it seem that both the HDD and the SSD applicable are disabled and I'm not sure why... I need to go into the RAID setup and disable the acceleration before I can boot up windows...

I can't seem to find a similar issue anywhere... hence my post... I also tried installing  EZ smart response to see if I could get it to work, but something is up with that... all it does is go to a splash screen with an up and down arrow in the center that do nothing...

I'm not good with RAID setups it's ma 1st time... any suggestions on what I can do?
Thanx

Hi

Well this is new technology to me as well but I think where you are going wrong is that you have  put another drive on the SATA3_0 port and that is confusing things. Move the SSD to the first port and hopefully it will all work.

hay DM, thanx for the fast reply,
I just tried swapping them but no go, just the same error in the swapped ports... I also took out the other 2 HDDs I have to make sure, anyway the port 0 HDD was the 1.8T (2T) system drive with windows installed on it, seems logical have the system drive in port 0 and have the SSD cache in port 1... (both on SATA3)...

well at least for the moment till I work it out I can just use suspend instead of shut down and keep using the SSD cashe...

so thanx but yeah... need some more ideas...

Hi

What I don't understand is why you would use a magnetic disk drive for your OS installation and then use a SSD just for a cache. Doesn't seem to make sense. It would be much better to use your SSD as your boot drive with your Windows installation on it and then the other drive for data storage. That way you would have your SSD on the primary port as well for the cache.

I did think about that, but most programs I would need to put on the HDD and then really only actual windows would get a boost instead of the entire system... I have like 300G of games and programs the SSD is only 60G and I got the SSD specifically to utilize this speed boost to the entire system not just 60G of stuff... the IRRT is good I mean I am using it and It's really fast, like REALLY fast, I just need to turn if off when I reboot windows atm because of this error so I don't get any advantage in the boot sequence, and the fact that's it's irritating to have such an error...

paint shop photo pro normally takes about 15-17 seconds to initialize and load up, with IRRT on, 3 seconds tops...

Yes  know what you mean because I have just installed a Revo x2 drive which is  a RAID0 version and give great speed increases. It is just hard to decide in your case where you would be better off. The trouble is there are not that many people using it yet to get a lot of feedback on it.

UPDATE!!!!
it's fixed, very simple. I was searching the Intel forums and found this post of the exact same issue.
apparently for some reason you need to reinstall the driver (Version:
10.5.0.1027)
. that's REinstall (I had already installed this during my windows set up), It looks like it needed to be the last thing to install for some reason.

but it's all working fine now, although I did get a BSOD after the 1st reboot during start up, but the 2nd and 3rd boots I have had no issues.

I do love the speed though, every thing is super fast, even firefox pages seem to load faster, my comp just got an adrenaline boost in every area! if you can get it running i would recommend it for sure, saves buying a big and costly SSD for the same speed. (well a direct SSD system might be a bit faster).

thanx for the replies anyway DM.

Thanks for the update and glad to hear that you have managed to track down the cause. I am sure that it does make a big difference and I have a couple of big SSDs but maybe I will try one in that situation just to see what sort of response it gives.
