I'm having big problems with this board too. Sata is a lot slower even though I've enabled Sata 3 in bios. No clear instructions how to install the drivers for the sata too. There is no floppy header to connect a floppy yet there is directory on the Gigabyte installation disk to be able to create a floppy disk. I'm using XP:
Configuration
Tsunami Dream case - 2x120mm fans
HIS Ati HD4850 512MB
AMD Phenom II 955BE @ 1.375
Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3
Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) @ 1.65v
1xSSD
3xHDD
1xBD-RW
The biggest problem with this motherboard is as follows:
My motherboard runs extremely hot. At 25*C ambient temp. I have 45*C on the southbridge, 62*C on the northbridge and 72*C on the mosfets. All voltages are at stock. Memory is at 1.60v and CPU at 1.35v. Temp on the CPU is 35*C idle, 46*C under load. I've replaced the stock fans on my case with more powerful, but this hasn't improved anything. I even checked the above temps with temp probes and the difference from the above values was 2-3*C less. Please help. Is my mobo deffective or is this new AM3+ socket that runs hot? I had Asus 785tdm-evo in the same configuration and I've never seen it above 42*C.
Ticket number is 1103333 posted on 8/07/2011 and still no reply. Just to mention that The above temps are on full load for 10min with prime95 blend test.
When idle I have my 955 processor at 1.00v with Phenom MSRtweaker so the max temp reported on the mobo is around 52. I am also using Nzxt Sentry 2 with 5 temp probes placed onto the motherboard heatsinks to confirm temps and the difference as stated is 2-3 degrees
. Now this really makes difficult to overclock my processor because the Case gets heated by the mobo, not the cpu. I've went further and installed 40mm fan on the SB heatsink and 60mm fan on the mosfet heatsink - still nothing has changed except 2*c off. I went even further and installed Scythe gentle typhoon at 4200RPM to intake 110CFM of air and at exhaust is Scythe s-flex to exhaust 62CFM. Ths reduced my temps with another 4*c but the noise is unbearable.
Really poor motherboard. Now I don't know if I should return it and exchange for another one (if I can) or just ask for replacement. I've got a feeling that there is a problem with the new AM3+ socket.
Forgot to mention that all motherboard voltages are at stock. I've tried lower them as much as I could - still no difference.
One setting was CPU something at the lowest 2.02v (i'm not at home to doublecheck) and another one at 1.38v
Let's see what others have experience with this board.
