MoBo GA EX58-UD3R - Don't recognize memory SLOT

MoBo GA EX58-UD3R - Don't recognize memory SLOT
« on: July 08, 2011, 06:38:44 am »
In the boot (post), says "Detecting DRam Size" and reboots several times. In the 3 or 4th time, starts Windows.

Have 6gb ram installed, 3x2gb, but in BIOS, shows only 4gb. Appear the 6gb (the 3 modules) but says that only 2 slots are "enabled". Windows says "6gb, usable 4gb".

The modules are in slots 1, 3 and 4 (the blue one is empty). Already tested the modules one by one at slot 1 and are all ok.

No overclock. Loaded optimized defaults in BIOS. Ram configs set to "auto". The problem is that Windows AND BIOS sees the 3 modules, but only left me use 2.

Already checked the processorr pins for bents and seens to be ok.

Configuration:

MoBo: GA-EX58-UD3R Rev 1.6
BIOS Version: FJ
Processor: Intel Core i7 920 2.66
Memory: 3x2gb Corsair CM3X2G1600C9
Video: Geforce 9800GT
OS: Windows 7 x64 SP1

Attached, a CPU-Z log

Thanks ex58!

Just tried, but problem persists...

In the @bios update software, before the bios update process, have a checkbox with the option
"clear dmi pool data" UNchecked. This is ok?

Have you read this thread:

Btw,
try to resit your CPU and do not tight much.
Check your socket pins !

Hi

The first thing to try is an extended clear of the CMOS.

Remove the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.

Once done remove the motherboard battery for at least one hour before replacing it.

Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.

You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Optimised BIOS Defaults.

Make any other changes to the BIOS settings to suit your self like disabling the floppy drive, disabling the full screen logo and making the HDD the primary boot device and then press F10 to save and exit.

Have you checked to ensure that the RAM is running at the correct voltage and timings in the BIOS?

I have read the 300+ posts of this thread you linked (there are some other links inside). The users have tried all brands and a LOT of different configuratiosn and have no solution... Sometimes, are all ok by a week and the problem returns... Las night, i have checked the socket pins are are all ok (i think). I have made 2 photos, but low resolution.

Some decent photos (macro and good quality) are needed for the CPU socket pins as I couldn't see well enough to decide if there were any bent pins.

Possible problems  are :

1 - Rams ( detected , test ok but even when bad  memtest cannot test ram in all full mode )  --> test with anothers sticks

2 - Socket with bent pins ... --> ask a watchmaker to repair if possible

3 - Stick socket with bad contacts / deformed legs or foreign body (already found piece of peanut inside !! )

4 - Rarely but why not : exchange the CPU

5 - Send for repair the motherboard

according to CPU-Z your memory is in dual channel mode
Have you tried setting the Extreme Memory Profile (X.M.P.) option in your BIOS
should be under the MB Intelligent Tweaker(M.I.T.) section of the BIOS

News:

This afternoon i leave the MoBo battery out and took the oportunity to bring the 3 memory modules to a friend that have an computer support store.

He tests and call me saying:

One module sometimes works, and sometimes not. The other two modules are always ok.

He tried for 5 times the suspicoius modeul and work 3 times, and fails 2 times.

I bring them back and make some tests again, with that one alone, and gotcha! The module works in 70% the times, but in others don't.

And, in the times that works, the problem of this topic appears... In other words: Works BAD!

Tomorrow i will test with a set o 16gb Kingstons from my friend. If works ok, problem solved!

Since the defective module are working sometimes, i can't detect this yesterday...

Thanks all for now! I will update about the tomorrow tests.

Possible problems  are :

1 - Rams ( detected , test ok but even when bad  memtest cannot test ram in all full mode )  --> test with anothers sticks

Memtest is not perfect !!

Problems are > 90 %  caused by bad memory sticks

Yes Pierre. Item 1!

I'm happy because, aparently, my MoBo  is ok!

Well, i need that ram capacity, for my audio editing aplications...

Probably i will buy a 12gb kit from Corsair or Kingston, to make triple channel.

If possible I would suggest the Corsair and use Dominators or Vengeance modules as you can always tighten the timings to give yourself a bit more speed. Glad you found the problem anyway!
