Open Hardware Monitor - 870A-UD3 (Rev 3.1) - Readouts?
« on: July 09, 2011, 01:12:06 am »
Hi everyone. I come from a long line of Intel boards/processors. I built an AMD PC for my uncle about 4 months ago (Athlon II X2 250/Gigabyte 760G) which I was very satisfied with. So in interest I sold my Q6600/750i/DDR2/8800GT PC and bought one with the Gigabyte 870A-UD3 and Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition processor. Everything is going great with it so far. It's been a pleasure to install and configure this Gigabyte based PC.

I'm just wondering what each of the readouts on a program I'm using are. Hoping someone could help me better understand this.

Attached is a picture of the program with my system.

I'd like to know what each of the Voltage (#5-#8) and Temperature (#1-#3) are for.

I've heard about the Northbridge cooling issues with these boards, and the lack of cooling for the mosfets. Are there any inexpensive solutions to this?

Hoping someone is able to answer all my questions, and sorry if I'm asking questions already answered.

I'm not sure there is much I can tell you about the readings other than that all of your
temps seem to be very good.

Did you undervolt your processor?

My 955be operates between 1.024v and 1.408v with cool and quiet enabled.
And yours is showing at 1.216 presumbably with out cool and quiet enabled.

Maybe Absic Or Dark Mantis can enlighten both of us on this matter.

I'm still a learning the ropes.

Thanks malum for the reply, yes I have undervolted the processor. I do with all builds I make. I'm not a big fan of Intel's Speedstep and used to disable it on every Intel build I had and instead undervolted the processor. I assume Cool and Quiet is sort of the same thing so I have disabled that as well.

I use a very well ventilated Fractal Design Core 3000 ATX case with the Coolermaster Hyper 212+.

Edit:

I'm going to take a crack at guessing the Temperature Readouts and say #1 is Motherboard, #2 is Southbridge, and #3 is Northbridge.

#2 is cpu # 3 is northbridge and #1 is motherboard. I am not going to guess at the voltage thing i can look and report back see if i can find some info on it.

Well that didnt take long. Isnt much info on the different voltages on it as i opened it on mine it only gave me 2 different voltages. Wondering if in setting you can set it to monitor what you want.

Just noticed #2 is CPU as I was using IntelBurnTest...said to myself "Those temperatures are always the same"  ???

Temps were easy to tell as i monitor them myself at times when adding new parts i usually dont monitor voltages any where else other than in bios.

Well using CPUID HW Monitor it seems as if OHM's temp. readouts are sort of buggy.

I guess my Northbridge temperature is pretty good then? I still can't touch it without getting burned...

Thats weird cause i have in my other computer a DFI M3HS and it stays around 42 to 50 after gaming. I worried about it alot at first then after a year i quit cause it never caused me any trouble. So yes yours are pretty standard. Actually pretty good. Your cpu runs a little hotter than mine but i use a zalmann cooler.

Yes you seem to be in good shape. I don't have any experience with speedstep  so I don't know. Cool and queit just lowers the multiplier and the voltage when the cpu is not in use. I use it because I'm still using the horrible stock cooler on my cpu. The coolermaster hyper 212+ is one of the coolers I have been really considering. I have limited funds and that one does seem to be the best value for the performance. I would love to get a Noctua though but I'm not sure if it would fit in my case...and the price maybe a bit out of my league. They do seem really awesome though.

Hi

On a lot of these boards the northbidge does indeed get a little too warm for comfort and the power phases around the CPU often get a little too hot if the stock cooler which blows downwards is changed for a third party aftermarket cooler which usually blows sideways. Both of these issues are easy enough to combat with a small extra fan and a bit of ingenuity.
