p67 ud4 b3 hdd activity light not working?
« on: July 12, 2011, 04:30:01 am »
i recently obtained a p67 ud4 b3. the board is working great but i cant get the hdd activity light to work on my case. It was working for on my p67 d3 b3. Also, the previous owner states it was working fine and he has the same exact case i have. When i got the board, it was in ahci mode which caused me to bsod until i changed it to ide. Ive tried reinstalling the wire, ive flipped the wire, ive made sure its in the proper spot. Nothing has fixed this, i get no light at all. Any ideas?

Hi

Well of course it's possible that the LED itself has failed. These are very reliable but do fail on occasion. Try replacing it first.

I knew you would say that  ;D so i switched the hdd led with the power led...and it works fine. Its 100% the motherboard. Anymore ideas?

Well of course make sure that it is connected the correct way round to the corrrect pins of the F_PANEL connector block. Beyond that I would say it is a fault on the motherboard.

Its connected properly...strange tho it was working for the previous owner. Honestly, its not a big deal, i can hear my hdd when its reading. Im gonna try reflashing the bios. Ill advise my findings. thanks for the help

If you intend to reflash the BIOS make sure to use QFlash and that the save DMI data is disabled on the homescreen.

Reflashed the bios...i didnt use qflash, i used bios6...sorry, i did it before i read your post  :-\ anyways, it didnt fix my problem. I did however see the light mildy flash once, and nothing else. scratching my head here....i may try moving to another black sata port and see if this fixes the problem. ill post my findings.

I take it you meant that you used @BIOS instead of QFlash. @BIOS is far more risky and more likely to cause a corrupt BIOS file but let's hope that you got away with it this time.

sorry, i meant @ bios. is it really that bad? ive done probably 5 bios flashes with it, and never had an issue. even if it did corrupt, i have the backup bios to save me correct?
