GA-Z68X-UD7-B3 F8 Bios Issues

GA-Z68X-UD7-B3 F8 Bios Issues
« on: July 22, 2011, 09:23:13 pm »
I would like to report some issues I noticed on BIOS F8

1) Dramaticaly Decrease in write performance of my SATA3 SSD (Vertex3 120GB), unstable read performance also.
    Atto resaults attached. Results with Driver IRST 10.5.0.1027 on both cases.

    Rolling Back to F7 fixed the issues, back to hight speeds.

2)By switching my memory to XMP profile (1600 8-8-8-24) the multiplier of my CPU turns x38 (i7 2600K@3.4) from x35 without letting me turn it back where I want, it turns to x38 again automaticaly.

 Also if I try to change my oc multiplier in advanced cpu settings, where you can change core multipliers indipendently, I cant change the fourth core, it turns to [Auto] when I try to change the value. The other three cores, take the values, for ex [44] [44] [44] [Auto]. When I try to change the last core it turns to auto all the others.

Hi

Have you made sure that your Turbo is disabled ?

Have you tried inputting the settings manually for the 1600mhz speed for the memory ?

Hey,

No, I didnt tried to set them manualy, I think it would be doable but in F7 Bios it was working with XMP profile without those problems.
Anyway, the major issue is the SSD's low write performance, I rolled back to F7 and I am ok.

I just would like to report you the issues so they fix them in then next bios. F8 doesnt work for me.

Thanks for your reply,
Greetings

Finally,new BIOS has new turbo function (up to 38) from 1333+ MHz memory frequency.
Looks like as bug,but is not.

It's as per Intel spec:
http://www.intel.com/support/processors/corei7/sb/CS-032279.htm?wapkw=%28cs-032279%29
1C=x38
2C=x37
3C=x36
4C=x35

Before only up to x35.

Also seen a decrease in performance (2x Vertex3 MI in RAID0, 64 KB stripe size). Particularly at the 32KB mark, read and write performance seem to have swapped places between F7 and F8. But generally smaller numbers in F8.

I would definitely say that the speeds are better and more stable in F7 BIOS.

Your lucky you got that far i am unable to load windows after updating to the f8 bios. It just freezes while starting windows then resets itself. Went back to f7 and everything works perfectly.
When I updated to F8 and the only changes i made in bios are loaded optimized defaults and changed the vertex 3 to ahci mode.

(which takes 1.68v to get it stable just at 1866 on this board for some reason but worked great with old maximus iv extreme and p8p67 but thats a whole nother issue)

Efharisto, Iliaspap.
I had the same issue with F8 and reverted back to F7.
You have to force the marvell controller to update the firmware because you are going back to older version.
I am a little dissapointed with the performance of the Sata 3 ports on a higher end board like these.
I hope they increase performance with updated Firmware/Drivers in the future.

Hi, I experience the same Vertex 3 maxiops 120GB write bottleneck with ATTO disk benchmark on my GA-Z68X-UD3P-B3 mobo having the latest F6 bios.

I tried almost everything to locate the problem but it appeared to be the motherboard bios!
Switched back to F5 and it all just worked as expected.

I also had this issue with the xmp profiles for the memory switching unexpected cpu frequency's.

It looks like Gigabyte has a wide spread issue with their new bios versions.
I hope they will solve these issue's quickly.

It certainly does look that way but hopefully it will be sorted out shortly. Have you contacted GGTS to make sure that they are aware of this problem with the BIOS ?

If not  you can get hold of them here:

Just enter your email address and click on the language of choice.
GGTS   http://ggts.gigabyte.com/

Please expect several days for a reply.

It is always a good idea for everyone who has a problem like this to let Gigabyte know so that they are aware of the sort of numbers of people that it is affecting.
