sLI fit problem on X58-UD7
« on: July 27, 2011, 03:48:34 am »
Quick question..... running sli Evga 580's, or at least I want to but with the cards in the x16 slots, temps are too high (90+ on the top card under load) and regular temps on the lower card (high 60's) because they are soooo close together. I want to put the bottom card in the last pci-e x8 slot but the card hits the power, hdd, led pinouts as well as the usb pinouts so the card won't fully pop into the slot. Any suggestions?

Lol k, so I assumed (no comments about assuming please :p ) that the card was hitting the pinouts.... turns out it wouldn't fit because there was no slot in the backplane of the case for the cards I/O shield to fit into. Hope that makes sense.... I ended up bending the part of the cards I/O shield out of the way and presto, card fits.

Nice bit of lateral thinking there! I think I would have cut the case with a dremel (or chainsaw) in case the card had a problem and needed RMAing in the future.

I did consider the RMA issue.... worst case scenario, if the card does die (knocks on wood furiously for its survival) I will use the good cards IO shield. If both cards fail.... well, I hesitate to think I may need to venture out into the real world to find amusement :0
