Mushkin RAM

Hi all

This is my first post in this forum.

I am building a desktop with the following configuration

Intel i7 970 6 core

Gigabyte X58 UD-5 rev 2

ATI Radeon Sapphire 5870 1 GB

Mushkin RAM 12 GB (3 x 4 GB)  times TWO ie total 24 GB

Now that I have placed an order for 2 mushkin ram kit which is 12 GB each, i am worried if the ram has been ordered correctly and will they fit?

the ram is Mushkin 998969 DDR3 UDIMM (3 X 4GB) PC3 12800 10-10-10-27 and because I could not find a 24 GB kit I bought two of the 12 GB kit.

Have I made a mistake?

any help or advice is much appreciated

Hi and welcome.

The memory that you have bought should be fine for your motherboard but you probably will find that it won't work on the "Auto" setings in the BIOS. You will need to manually configure the settings but apart from that I don't foresee a problem.

I am a bit nervous about this as this is the first time a doing this (to buy a system of similar config is more expensive).

  You WILL be fine.... I have 24 gig of Mushkin Madness in my machine and it performs flawlessly in my GA-X58A-UD3R ver 2

 In fact I was expecting as DM said to having to imput the timmings manualy for the default setup and install..... Fired up on auto first time.

That's right when you buy quality components you often get away with more than you would if it was budget basement buys. Mushkin is good quality memory, one of the top.

Pardon me if this question is stupid but what settings do I have to change in the BIOS.

Well hopefully nothing as Allan said but if you do have to configure them yourself you will have to input the voltage and the main timings (ie 9-9-9-24 1.65v)

     As the Man said.....you can't bust anything by turning it on and see what happens...... the worst case scenario is imputing the timings yourself

Thanks a lot for all th equick reply.

what i forgot to mention was that the RAM is 1600MHZ, and there is NO mention of 1600MHZ on the compatibility list on Gigabyte website.

It will probably come with what is termed an XMP. This stands for Extreme Memory Profile and is just a set of automated settings that will make the memory run at 1600MHz. Again it may or may not work as you have filled all the banks.
