GA-X58A-UDR-Drive speeds.
« on: August 16, 2011, 10:25:54 pm »
Am using Intel i7 950. 12 gb ddr3 1600 set at present to 1333. I western Digital Black 500gb 6GB/s.
Win 7 Ultimate x64 + SP1. Mahatten PCI Express 2 port SATA 6GB/s. 2x6GB/s Icy Box plug in drive
units plus IDE removable tray. I connection to 6GB/s card, 2nd SATA to Intel. I drive only required,
but require to change drives for different OS & Software etc.

What is the best drive speed I can expect from this  setup. Had my first try using the ATTO software.
Tried with port 6&7 switched off, turning off original Marvell driver in widows system. Installed latest
Marvell driver for Express card.

Had a real mixed bag of results. Tested drive in Intel & Marvell, the best I achieved was a measly 120
GB/s. I started off at max 110gb/s. After some tests & System restore couldn't get back to the just plus
of 120GB/s & back where I started. The Marvell card had slight edge. Tried AHCI mode. Also tried
Marvell raid drivers then restore.

Am looking to try the OCZ Vertex 3 series max iops plus Icy Dock drive size converter just for one
removable OS, 120GB but would I gain a lot for price.

Regards tinker.

Hi Tinker,  ;)

Just verify if you have this hardware :

or
http://www.icybox.com.tw/pdf_spec/datasheet_ib-2536_e.pdf

I think about OCZ Vertex 3 is a very good SSD.

But I prefer wait before answer about general situation your are exposed.

Thanks for the reply Gloup_Gloup. The Icy Box x 2 is new SATA 3 spec, aluminium case. Just scrapped 2
new SATA 2 ones also have SATA 3 leads. The Icy Dock 2.5" converter I will go for is SATA 3. Probably
MB982IP-1S. The 2nd one is MB982SP-1S latest without SAS added but seems unavailable, they also
do a cheaper plastic SATA 3 one. Tried to get an Icy Box one but only SATA 2 as per your link.
Sorry about mistake in post Dock & Box. Just to be clear am using 3.5" drive bays.

Regards tinker.

Re my first post which I can't edit, should have drive test speed at 120 mb/s. wish
it was GB/s.
