880GA - IDE cable and DVD drive power/eject issue
« on: August 26, 2011, 09:34:07 pm »
Brand new. Model Name : GA-880GA-UD3H(rev. 3.1)

Firstly when you boot the machine everything looks normal except the HDD light stays on all the time.

Then, you attempt to eject the DVD drive tray using the button during POST or after it doesn't matter. Nothing happens. The green light on the dvd drive is ON however eject doesn't work. Then when you PULL OUT the IDE cable, the eject works!

Tried different cables, switched jumpers, different power supplies. DVD drive works fine in a different machine. Verified problem with ANOTHER DVD drive. Even bench built the thing. There is no OS. Any ideas? RMA job?

Are you saying that the drive is an IDE(PATA) not SATA ? If so make sure that the drive is correctly selected as master or slave whichever is right. Also make sure that the cable is connected the right way around....red line to pin one.
