Static pop at boot up and shutdown

Upon every bootup or shutdown I get this annoying static popping noise.  I am using the onboard Realtek sound with Logitech powered 5.1 speakers.  Can someone help me get rid of this aweful sound?  It has been doing this since 1st bootup from assembly and OS install.

The only thing I can think of is to make sure that you have the latest drivers and firmware installed and to check that any cables are routed away from power cables etc.

  Amazed... Welcome ......and is this your real name?

 Audio can be a mine field to trouble shoot..........general,intermittent static noise (popping,scratching,crackling) can be attributed to many sources ..........from poor quality speaker cables, electrical interference........lights being switch on or off, close proximity of appliances (routers,modems,desk lamps) which can be moved further away from the PC (4 to 6 feet)

  One thing you can definitely try......most will put the troublesome sound cable from the DVD to the board......if you remove this, beside being a posible scorce of your problem......it supplies a poor quality audio signal ....... once removed, your board will reroute this signal as a much better quality Digital signal............and possibly fix the pop

  What you describe is most likely poor shielding (Metal case) around your PSU.......Poor quality (shielded) PSUs are notorious for electrical interference when on-board sound is used..........Ferrite clip on filters could be tried but this will be hit and miss......Enacom terminal filters are the bees knees but carry the royal jelly price tag......hope this helps your research.

Holy Moly!  That's a brainful of info that I doubt I can follow.  I was hopeing it would be something simple with this new system.  My prior MSI Core2Duo system did not have this problem so I figured it has to be the new m/b or onboard audio hardware.  My old system did have the proper colored sockets for my Logitech speaker plugs but this gigabyte m/b only has two properly matching colors of the three so I just pluged the "black" colored one into what I think is a brown socket....   I dunno'....  I don't think it's my power supply since I've had it a year or so without this noise.

Welp, I hate to give up on this since it's so annoying, so keep the tips coming.  I do have the latest BIOS (F10) for my m/b and the latest Realtek Audio driver  from the Gigabyte site so I'm not sure what other driver I could try.

The timing of this noise is in the middle of the Windows swirl of 4 colors at boot up and again right as I shut down or reboot.

 OK Holy Moly......I was going to tell you to stick your fingers in your ears but..........well we'll take it a step at a time   You need to make sure it's not electro interference affecting the speakers....(the Magnets)......you still with me?.........Make sure there is no plugged in kit close to the speakers, router monitor ect......see if you can get say 2 to 3 feet clear around your speakers and try and keep the speaker wires away from mains power cables.....(yes this is bad).......now try and boot it up and see what happens............any difference?.......report back if it's the same or even slightly different

  Now 2..........is it a new monitor?

  3..........are they new speakers or cables ?

  4.........do you have a small,simular speaker and /or cable you can try?

  5.........report back with your findings ....... I really don't want to get the Lear-jet out again tonight for a house call.

Sorry but you can't just guess at what connections to use. Check in your manual for the correct port and then change the connection. That is probably what is causing the problem!

The other answer is tha you have selected a weird sound for the startup and shutdown of Windows. Try selecting a different sound instead and post back with what you find.

Okay, found my problem!  It's so simple; it goes back to: "read the manual, dummy".  It was a simple job of re-tasking the outputs.  There are only the 3 outputs with the new m/b, where I had 5 with my old m/b so all I had to do there was match colors.  So after tasking the "microphone" output to the "center/subwoofer" and the "line in" output to the "rear speakers"; wala... no more annoyance.  So now I'm back to my old 5.1 and no static pop.  I apologize for dragging you guys into this without being prepared; but hopefully someone else can be helped by my labors.

No problem and often it is down to a case of RTFM. We have all been caught at some time or another I am sure.
