H55M-UD2H Won't boot

H55M-UD2H Won't boot
« on: September 01, 2011, 05:55:54 pm »
Specs:
H55M-UD2H Motherboard
I5-750 processor
Antec 550W PSU
4gb Kingston RAM

Here's the sad story: Yesterday before I went to sleep, I tried to shut down my computer as I usually do (using windows shut down button). This time, instead of shutting down, it restarted. So I hit the power button on my PC case, restart again. Maintained the power button for 3 seconds for brutal shut down, restart again. I ended up removing the power from the computer, pulling out the plug.

This morning, I tried to boot my PC, no sound, nothing. It just won't boot, not even a fan will move. I thought the power supply could be the problem but my usb hdd (which is usb powered) seems to be powered on...

Is my motherboard fried?

Thank you for your time.

  Alex3050    welcome buddy..........that's a bummer

Most likely the PSU ........ USB is still getting power as one or more of the rails is still pumping power..... still if you are a handy DIYer.......Ohmmeter/voltmeter time.........or you can buy quite cheaply PSU meters off the net..........or chuck in a spare if you can get your hands on one.......if it's not the PSU.......post back ;)

Hi I expect it is not as bad as you think and hopefully we can get it running again soon. Try removing the power cable and the pressing the power button until you are sure that all power is drained. You can then connect back up and try booting again. If that doesn't work try this instead.

The next thing to try is to clear the CMOS.

Remove the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.

Once done remove the motherboard battery for at least one hour before replacing it.

Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.

You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Optimised BIOS Defaults.

Make any other changes to the BIOS settings to suit your self like disabling the floppy drive, disabling the full screen logo and making the HDD the primary boot device and then press F10 to save and exit.

Hi,
Thanks for the advice Aussie. I borrowed a voltmeter and the power supply was indeed a problem. Got a brand new one. Now, I can boot the computer but there is no picture on the screen. I removed my graphic card in order to use the on-board dvi or hdmi output but still no results...

What should I do next?
