Mouse related to buzz/ noise in speakers

Hey...long time problem...never found a solution for it and just live with it I suppose...but thought someone here could help. Here's my specs:

Speakers: Mackie MR5's which are connected from the back of the Firebox (firewire soundcard) with 1/4" cables and which require their own power...so a power cable going to the wall for each.

The problem is that when idle the speakers emit a noticeable but not loud buzzing/ whine/ electrical type disturbance noise. The noise can be controlled in a way by movement of the mouse...for example if I scroll webpages the speakers will buzz in time with the mouse scroll wheel and the buzzing will be louder. Also any webpage that has a lot of loading icons or scrolling images such as you might find in a news page or msn.com perhaps cause extra buzzing. In addition...in Mozilla (but laughably to me not in IE) when I hover my mouse cursor over the 'back arrow' button which when clicked takes you to the previous webpage you were on, the buzzing intensifies and gets louder. Furthermore, when the  computer is working, such as when I carry out a search in C:/ in Windows...the buzzing seems to almost follow the 'thinking' of the CPU.

When I unplug the firewire cable from the soundcard/ PC the speakers idle in a normal way...just a slight/ faint sound you would expect of a speaker. As soon as the firewire cable is in, connecting the soundcard to the PC...buzz buzz.

Clearly the speakers are not at fault. Powered, they idle normally.

What has the movement of the mouse got to do with it...this must be a clue that points to something.

Why does the CPU thinking cause the speakers to buzz?

7 years I've had this problem and have not fixed it yet.

Hello and welcome.

It would appear to be feedback of some description. The trouble is describing it and curing it are two very different things. Normally it is because some cables are too close together and you are getting "crosstalk". This is then amplified and you hear it coming out of the speakers. The trouble is that sometimes the "cables" are actually the tracks on the printed circuit boards that have been badly designed. There is nothing you can do about this apart from change the device.

I would suggest trying a different sound card even if just for testing. Check the onboard sound and see if it still picks up the feedback. It is merely a case of tracking down the offender.

Sound feedback can be hard to track down. What kind of a mouse are you using, wired or wireless?

Do you have the latest driver and utilities for your Sound Card ? If so double check your sound settings for both playing and recording and insure that the "mike" and "All U Hear" options are disabled when idle.  Make sure that there are no other cordless mikes or speakers nearby that could cause crossfeed such as those found on some monitors or webcams. If you do video conferencing or use voice in gaming make sure that mikes ansd headsets are disabled when not in use

Are their any electrical motors nearby? Are you using any electrical appliance, such as an air cleaner or the likes, plugged into the same outlet or circuit that you computer or speakers are plugged into. Remenber that there maybe 2 or 3 electrical outlets in your computer room but they quite likely are running on the same electrical circuit. An electrical motor attached to any of these outlet will feedback to your sound system / PC.

You live in a very big City, are there any big electrical anything near you, power line, cell or micro tower, neon sign, radio transmission tower? if you live in an apartment building, are you next to a servicing room or an elevator shaft?

You have much patience or bad hearing... putting up with this for 7 years...! Good luck tracking it down...
