GA-Z68XP-UD4 rev1.3 differences?
« on: October 02, 2011, 02:23:28 am »
Hey all,

I just bought a GA-Z68XP-UD4 rev1.0 and found out there's a rev1.3.  Does anyone know what the differences are between rev 1.3 and 1.0?

Thanks.

Hi,

One of the differences is the PCIE 3.0

http://uk.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3977#ov

If you click on the first thumbnail image of the MB and inspect it using the magnifier, you will see

"Dual PCI Express 3.0"

The overview of the board hints at this also.

Good observation.  Thanks.

Does anyone know when this revision was released, if yet?  There doesn't seem to be much info on rev1.3 and even the manual hasn't been updated

Just got off the phone with Gigabyte tech support and asked where are the 1.3 boards and thy have not been released yet.

Second and more importantly revision 1.0 will receive the same PCI Express 3.0 support through a bios update when they release the 1.3 revision board,

Good news for all of us that have the 1.0 revision!   ;D

From my information that I have picked up it is not possible to fully impliment PCIE3.0 spec by BIOS/software  update alone. It will help but will not suffice.

According to GB same exact hardware on 1. and 1.3 1.3 is just  the official release of pci 3.0. Thats what they told me anyway. I guess i will wait and see.

If they add the required hardware (chip) on the motherboard there is no reason at all that it couldn't be implimented but it requires more than a BIOS update etc.

Called again to annoy them and asked to speak to a manager they said there is no need as all 6 series borards inc the one were speaking of were equipped since day 1 for pci express 3.0 and that the support was in f5 bios. Check out this page  link for this board does not even show a 1.3 revision....

All I can say is watch how this pans out in future. I think you will find that there is a little more to full implimentation than a BIOS update. Recognising PCIE3.0 and using it's full potential is different.
