GA-G41MT-USB3 Getting stuck on windos startup
« on: October 03, 2011, 02:00:03 pm »
Hey Everybody,

This is my first time using the forum, so i appreciate any and all help.

i just purchased the Gygabyte GA-G41MT-USB3 board to use with the Intel Pentium D 925 3.0GHz, 4MB Cache, 800MHz FSB, Presler, Dual-Core Socket 775, Processor which the GYGABYTE site says is compatable with the board.

upon start up the splash screen with come up i can enter Bios but when it goes to Starting windows(7) it hangs up right there and windows does not start. i have removed all hardware and am using only the onboard video. also i have ran a memtest on the memory and there are no errors. i have also removed processor reapplied thermal compound and switched power supplies and it still locks up.

Also i am using a hard drive that was used with the previous motherboard EVGA nForce 650i Ultra Socket 775 Motherboard.
should i do a clean install of windows 7? could that be why it is not starting windows. Although i did try the hard drive in another computer and windows started right up.

please help.

Very good chance that is the problem .... MBR (Master boot record) is defined when you install on the old machine /setup .... you can be lucky as you already saw with the other machine .... but if you started using it for any length of time ....it would probable have issues

You could try doing a MBR repair with your Windows install CD/DVD ...... but the best action is a clean install .... nothing like a fresh install of windows anyway to kick things off........ right from the start.

I just tried to do a fresh install and when the windows 7 cd starts it hangs up in the same spot, the starting windows screen. Any other suggestions?

  Welcome again dblplay

Right ....there's definitely a problem with windows not loading with a fresh install......!

you said you tested memory with memtest, good, but did you test one dimm at a time in slot 1 !..........?

The Presler CPU is supported but I can't find any reference to what memory you have................?

Are you happy with what you know re configuring the BIOS, .... ACHI....all the right controllers....ect.......?

I suspect these where purchased second hand or am I wrong on this point..........?

I tried memtest86+ in every combination i stick in either slot switched around and both sticks. i tried two different sets of memory GSKILL RIPJAWS DDR3 1333mh and Corsair, they both work in another computer with no problems. is it possible it is the mobo itself? on a side note i also tried to install win XP and while trying to install got a BSOD refering to the pci.sys. so it does lead me to believe it is the mobo.

What are your thoughts on that?

PCI.sys brings in the Mobo.....and the graphics too damit!...... when you got that error message , where you using the onboard Graphics ?

If there was no Graphics card in a pci slot with that error.....not 100% but likely "Frodo" has a new Frisbee.

DM (Moderator) need to have a look at this thread to confirm, but he will not be back on-line till the morning.....hope it's not urgent!

There also an outside chance it's CPU related......Outside though!

Thank you Aussie,

im guessing even though that bsod was while trying to install windows XP it is likely the same reason why windows 7 will not work. should i  get an RMA or should i wait to see what the Moderator has to say?

Again thank you for the help.

Hi sorry for the delay.

It could be very many things at the moment. The hard drive is just one of them. I take it that this is a new build that you have put together. If so I would suggest trying to rebuild it outside of the case where everything will be easier to get at etc.

The next thing is to remove the motherboard form the case and test it on the workbench.

Make sure that you observe anti-static precautions.

Lay some cardboard or use the motherboard box that is non-conductive on the worktop and remove the motherboard/CPU/heatsink/fan/buzzer/one stick of memory and PSU from the case and put it on the cardboard. Add the keyboard and now try and boot. The system should try and then fail emitting a series of beeps. Please post what sounds it makes.

Thank  you for the reply DM, that is about the only thing i have not done, booting it up without the processor that is. i will have to do it when i get home from work. Just an F.Y.I when the system did boot to the splash screen it gives off only on beep and then it gets stuck on the starting windows screen.

I think that you must have misread the post or something as I didn't mention trying to boot without the processor. Nothing would happen at all in that instance. You must have the CPU in to boot.

One beep is right. That just shows that POST (Power On Self Test) has concluded satisfactorilly. It should just beep and then move on to load the OS.

yes i did, sorry. with that said, i have tried all possible senarios to try and get the OS to load.

1. tried two different hard drives
2. two different sets of ram and ran memtest86+ on both as well as one at a time (Corsair, GSKILL)
3. removed and re applied Tim several times to processor (polished clean each time before application).
4. just trying the on board video as not to have any other hardware conflicts.
5. also tried processor in a different board with no problems.

If there is anything i am missing please let me know. Or if there is something else to try.
As i mentioned before i even tried to load Windows XP with no luck as i got a BSOD and pci.sys.

Once again thank you for all the help.

I think that it is probably time you RMA'd the motherboard to see if Gigabyte can find the problem and sort it. Make sure that you put a note in with the board for the tech who is doing the job.

Hi guys,

Well, a am still at it with this mother board! i RMA'd it now for a second time. When i received the second board it would not even power up. now,i received the third board and it is doing the same thing as the first board! what am i missing? what am i doing wrong? if i never built a system before i would say it is all me! could it just be a bad batch of Mobo's?

If anyone has any other suggestions please feel free to pound it into my head as it will be better then banging my head against the wall.

Thanks again.
