Memory upgrade for GA-X58A-UD3R

Hi there,

As the title states, I'm in the market for some new RAMS and I am interested in this for mobo:

My query is, can I just put these in and BIOS will auto configure it to run at 1600Mhz, or do I have to do some tweaking in BIOS
to get it to run at it's rated performance?

The Corsair website states that these modules include XMP performance profile, so I am assuming that if I do need to tweak BIOS
a bit, it will be to turn on the Support for Extreme Memory Profile (XMP) and everything should run fine?

I've never done anything like this before so any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome.

Some excellent memory modules there and they should do your board proud. They are good quality and as a matched kit should be stable. I run the Dominators in my X58A-UD7 but they are not as fast as the ones you linked to but are 1600mhz. Run beautifully and overclock well.

If that is al the RAM that you will have installed then you should be able to get away with running the settings in Auto in the BIOS and just selecting XMP profile 1.

sry to hijack the post    but along the same lines, i have the same mobo, and just made some upgrades. An OCZ Revo 2x3 with some ram that was double my current speed and size. The CMX12GX3M3A2000C9 or in short the Corsair 12GBb x 3 sticks, at 2000Mhz.

I was sure i had found them on your list of compatible ram, but i shopped for it a week later, so obviously i was mistaken. Now my problem is that, i couldnt even get XMP (profile 1) in bios to work with it. All that happened was the computer booted, ran 3 seconds, then rebooted, in an endless cycle. Next, i lowered the ram timing to 1867Mhz with 1.6v but i was getting blue screens in Windows 7 on the new Hard drive and to be honest im in over my head lol.

So i took out the new ram, put in one stick of the old, then up from there... and it was the new ram causing the errors, or at least the timing / voltage. Now im Running (See below)... and yet to have a blue screen or crash. So any advice, or send back the ram?

Ex58-ud3r (Rev 2.0) lastest Beta Bios
Intel I7-940
6Gb 1066Mhz corsair ram (would like to put in the 12Gb corsair 2000Mhz)
1 x AMD 6950 gpu
1 x 240Gb OCZ revo 3x2

  Woo, woo woo , .... go back a step ..... you have the RevoDrive 3 x2 ? ....is this correct  ?    and you're booting off it ? is this correct ?

  When you lowered the memory to 1867Mhz .... what timing was it running at  eg 9-10-9-27 maybe ?

  Just a wild guess .... are you heavily into cameras and lighting ?

Not into cameras and lighting, im just a sucker for the newest and latest when i can afford it lol 
 
I had an OCZ Vertex, its what 3 years old nearly? So i was choosing between the Revodrive 3x2 or the Velo drive. Basically i was being blinded by numbers and figures as always, and wanted the fastest one lol. Figures told me the Revo 3x2, but ive yet to figure out how to speed up the delay of it "inializing" the drive. (Thats like 5 of nothing happening) When its in Windows, the drive is fine... very quick.

The Revodrive 3x2 is booting on the bottom PCI-E slot of my x58a-ud3r, with Windows 7 - 64 bit, been running nearly 18 hours now playing games all day fine

Lastly yes, when i put the bios on the XMP profile 1, for 2002Mhz it stuck it on 9 - 10 - 9 - 27 with 1.65v but when i put it on 1867Mhz, u know what... im not sure what timings it went on. However, when it messed up the few times i tried, i had use the reset bios button on the back, so that should have cleared those timings i believe?
When i put it on 1867Mhz i believe i only changed the Multiplier to x14? and gave the voltage 1.6v? too high?
Hope i havent confused u more, ask if u need more info

I am not surprised that you are having problems there as the voltage you are trying to get them to run at is below even the standard default of 1.65v. Go into the BIOS and set the voltage to 1.66v also set the timings to the default ones for 2000 mhz. 9-10-9-27 and make sure that you have the sticks in all the white slots.

  ok my nooby mistakes with the timings and voltage basically. Tried the XMP profile 1 again, didnt like it as before lol. Just kept resetting... however the lower 1867Mhz, with 9-10-9-27 with 1.66v is running good. No blue screens over 2 hours?

I hate memory stuff, im gonna ask before i touch it or buy it from now on lol. I thought it was gonna be so simple with the XMP profile though!  Oh well nvm.

1 question though, with the higher voltage... will that damage anything on the board? or shorten its life? or is it well with-in its tolerance... ty again.

No problem at all with those sorts of voltages , they are well within safe zones.

  I know people running 1.77V......not a problem .... your only 0.01V above what there manufactured to run at

  Just enjoy for now....as your experience grows .... you should be able to get them to run at 2000Mhz ... "lots of read is key", not fumbling with setting you don't quite understand just yet!.....it'll come
