Gigabyte GTX 460 GV-N460OC-1GI - Screen goes black

Greetings !

I've recently acquired a Gigabyte 460 1GB to work next to my Palit GTX 460 1GB in SLI mode.

Only when I stress the cards, the system suddenly shuts down. After some testing, and placing the Gigabyte only in my PC, it seems theres a issue with the temperature.

When I clock it to (only!) 800core. The temperatures are reaching a mere 80c when stressing.. But when I clock it to 805, as soon as the temperature reaches 81c the screen goes black and I can hear the fans speed up to 100%..

So it seems to be a heat issue, but normally, the card should easily be able to take up to 95 degrees... Do I just have a bad copy, or could something else be going wrong ?

System:
Gigabyte-EX58-Extreme
Intel Core I7 920 (clocked to 3,6ghz)
3x 2GB DDR3 modules Corsair
StealthXtreme 600watt PSU (excluded this, tried a 750 watt PSU, same issue)

Hi there,
Have you tried raising voltage? This card should be able to go up to 850MHz on GPU without raising voltage but there are other factors that might prevent that. Not enough cooling space between the cards lowers air availability and increases the temperature but I don't think that the temperature is the problem... This problem might be related to combination of lower voltage and (too weak for SLI) PSU. I know you said that you tried on other PSU but SLI is a mean son of the bi*ch when comes to overclocking and related power consumption...

Try putting a fan direct to SLI, increase voltage (by a little bit) and monitor what happens, if that fails try the same with stronger PSU...

Edit: Sorry, I just re-read your post and I noticed that you have the same problems with GBT card only... Just try increasing voltage by a little bit and see what happens (some of the GBT cards come under-volted so that might be the problem)...

I'm currently running in single mode, the 2nd card is outside of my box. Stock core is 1.04 if I remember correctly. Tried upping the voltage to the maximum (the slider in afterburner) no changes at all...

It's just odd that it just shutdown at 81 degrees, so it doesn't seem voltage related, tried this morning with the fans on 100%, took 10 minutes to get to 81, but then it shut down again..

I've tried it on a 750w Corsair.. Should be fairly sufficient for it

Then my friend, you may have bought a faulty card (believe me I've been there - haven't even got to OC) 
You could try updating bios if it isn't the newest version because I read a couple of times that people had some related problems with some of the GBT cards (GTX 460, GTX 560Ti and HD6850) and were fixed by new bios. I never had a single problem with my GTX 460 so not sure what to tell you...

Well the fan is unlocked to 100%, so I assume it has that bios you named..

Guess it's just faulty then...Damn!
