GA-990FXA-UD3 AMD 990FX - Bulldozer compatible?
« on: October 12, 2011, 01:05:27 pm »
I am days away from ordering what i thought was the correct motherboard to take a new Bulldozer CPU (GA-990FXA-UD3 AMD 990FX (Socket AM3+) Motherboard ), However i have seen that the Bulldozer CPU is not supported by it on the CPU support list.

Surely this is a typo error by Gigabyte as there are lesser CPUS that can take the new bulldozer chip.... For instance the D3 motherboard can take the bulldozer CPU.

I was almost certain that this motherboard would be ok to take the new chip?

Please can someone help me out and do you think i should contact gigabyte to check before order?

Much appreciated guys

Surely that would be the wise action to take before you spend any money, their response will allow you to make a more informed decison but at the end of the day the decision is yours.

Hi there,

my understanding is that this motherboard does support the new Bulldozer FX CPU's and it is probably just an oversight on the CPU support page. If you check earlier revision the FX Processors are there.

I agree. I can't believe that they wouldn't provide BullDozer CPU support on these motherboards.

but my main concern is getting the FX cpu working with the new F5A bios, i still cannot boot from OS with my current setup, all previous bios work just fine. Has anyone had success with the UD3 and F5A bios?

This is a sham.

When I bought my ud3 mobo it CLEARLY showed support for the FX series bulldozer chips.

Now all FX series chips have been removed from the support list?  Sounds like false advertising to me.  I'll be contacting Gigabyte to get a full refund if indeed this is the case.

Well it could just a an error as the earlier Rev still shows its compatible but i just cant see why they wouldnt make this bulldozer compatible.

I have now sent 3 different emails and no reply so will keep you updated if and when i know more.

If anyone else has any more information it would really be appreciated.

Just to confirm that this motherboard will take the new Bulldozer FX processors - Hopefully the Gigabyte website should be updated soon to reflect this.

I would overlook the bulldozier and stay with a 1090t or so as the performance and reviews dont look good on the new chip.

Yes , you can always upgrade to the BullDozer later once they have ironed out all the bugs  and optimised everything they can. Until then stick with your tried and trusted 1090T for now.

Just double-checked, & all 3 revisions (1.0, 1.1 & 1.2) are saying they're fully compatible with the Bulldozer CPUs.
