Z68x ud4 problems

I am having problems with my z68x UD4 board

1.... my sound blaster audigy plainum PCI card wont work  correctly

it install fine but wont play anything above 16bit 4800 hz  even with it this its crackling and poping
tested card in a Gigabyte AMD board and it performs perfectly as it did in my P35 DS3P under windows 7

I have tried installs of windows 7 64bit and 32bit but give the same results with this board.


2 I have a device in the device manager that disappears on boot until I "scan for hardware changes" and it re appears haven't a clue what it does

F9 and F8 bios tested with same results

worked out what was causing the "intel 6 Series /C200 chipset thermal control 1C24 driver issue 


was my logitec G15 keyboad for some reason so thats one down but the biggest one remains

Have you tested for latency ?

If not try downloading and running DPC Latency Checker from  http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml

Also have you tried without the Logitech hardware attached ?

first thing I did was check with DPC and its perfect no spikes nothing.


i have tried removing the keyboard and it has no effect on the sound card problem

Have you disabled tihe onboard sound (Azalia Codec) in the BIOS ?

If you run off the onboard sound instead do you still get the same problem or is it purely the Creative card that is playing up ?

Yes I disabled on-board sound. but onboard sound works perfectly when in use so the issue is only with the sound blaster.


the sound blaster works perfectly in my other system that system also uses the same OS windows 7

It sounds like some sort of incompatibility between the motherboard (or maybe another component) and the addon card then.

well I only have basic components plugged in

keyboard,mouse,ssd and 6870 graphics card

the board has PCI slots so all PCI hardware with available drivers should work with it, it shouldn't be hit and miss at all

And in an ideal world it wouldn't. Trouble is we are talking about computers here and we all know how temperamental they can be at times.  Have you tried  upgrading the firmware on the SSD ? This is known to cause problems when it is outdated sometimes. If you have a speare drive try swapping it out  and do a clean install of your OS on it. You will be able to see if this has any bearing on the issue.

I have removed all drives and used a normal HDD installed xp and it worked fine even with chipset drivers


then i formated and did the same for windows 7 and got the problem again in the same setup


this has to be a chipset/motherboard issue because under a different motherboard and windows 7 it works fine

sound card manufacturers and any other manufactures don't make drivers for specific chipsets they make them by OS
my card has drivers for windows 7 so it should work fine as it does with ASUS boards under z68 ( found someone on the forums with same card as me with ASUS board and his works perfectly under win7

  Maybe another tack might work !

  Shut down and remove the sound card........reboot the machine to windows.......use something like Revo uninstaller to remove ALL instances of the sound cards drivers and any apps or software applicable to it..........reboot machine to confirm delete process.

  Do the same for your Logitech Hardware conflictor Keyboard ( unfortunately Logitech keyboards come up on the forum often) hopefully you have another keyboard to use temporarily.....PS2 would be perfect

  Now boot to windows and make sure it's stable and no conflicts in system hardware manager ......now boot to BIOS and make sure on-board sound is disabled.......save and boot to windows again to check stability and hardware manager again for conflicts or faults........if everything is dandy.....shut down completely.

  Now install (Hardware) the sound card in the appropriate slot and boot through to windows.......now hopefully you have the drivers only on memory stick or DVD/CD........if the OS prompt you to load......ignore and follow the sound-cards manufactures procedure to install the drivers......make sure you have already been to the sound-cards website and have the very latest drivers at hand.......good luck

  If successful  ....use for a few hour and a few re-boots........Only then try installing you much loved keyboard and cross your fingers

We do see quote a lot of problems that seem to be caused at least to some extent by Logitech keyboards also often a PS2 will get you out of trouble where a USB version won't.
