I think it was to be expected , just happened a little faster/earlier than I thought. Even before BullDozer was marketed it was fairly obvious that it was a make or break scenario. I just hope it doesn't turn into a downward slope that they can't get off. An Intel only marketplace is not something any of us would like to see.

Deja Vu, I remember commenting on that a while back, regards either Intel joining up with AMD or one going down the tubes.
I would hate to see Intel dominating the market.
Next will be ATI & Nvidia.

My thoughts exactly. Something that has been on the cards for a long time and sometimes seemingly very close.

Ahhhhhhh! but they both have good product......which changes the equation.....Intel and AMD are not interchangeable....... ATI & Nvidia......can live side by side quite comfortably........BIG Difference!

AMD restructuring their business doesn't mean they are giving up the fight but one has to admit that, as a company they are facing some real issues.

In August they had 20.4% of the Chip market against Intel's 79.3% share this was actually a slight rise for AMD and small loss of market share for Intel. How much of an impact the poor showing of the Bulldozer FX processors will have on this only time will truly tell.

AMD does have problems though, as I have noticed that the higher rated Phenom ii X6 processors are actually more expensive than the new X6 Bulldozers. Also they are obviously struggling to get the Bulldozer chips out as even now, a few weeks after their release, the top X8 Bulldozers are still not readily available from any of the major UK suppliers and are still on pre-order.

The AMD  Llano APU's have received critical acclaim but once again, supply is not meeting needs and this does seem to be AMD's Achilles Heel at the present time.

Hopefully, restructuring the company will help resolve some of these problems and also help them keep costs down. By doing this, hopefully they will bounce back, leaner, fitter and able to move forward in a positive way.

And don't write off Bulldozer or AMD just yet, remember the story of the tortoise and the hare. It's not always pure speed that wins the race but having the staying power to get to the end of the course.
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

Well said that man.

AMD like other large companies have decided to restructure years ago as part and parcel of there strategic planning process, markets are dynamic and change due to there main competitor, Intel, and other extenal factors.  It is likely that the restructuring will enable them  to be more competitive and provide new products in the future. A view you could take is that AMD are responding by restructuring in order that the product can reach the consumer as they first planned. So it's not over until the fat lady sings!!!! :)

If anyone from AMD is reading this I will happily test / review a BD chip for you!!! ;)

So will AMD sell off ATI?
Or will ATI go on its own?

I think the answer to that may be determined by the profitabilty of ATI and not forgetting the profit quality of the various products!!! :)

Cashflow is the name of the game, I can't see any business letting go of a cash cow which may help them sustain the business through lean periods, I haven't seen AMD's accounts so I couldn't comment any further.......at this point in time. :)

There you see, it would appear that ATi a subsidiary of Advanced Micro Devices, better known as AMD, has the financial resources to help the parent company through difficult times when the economic environment is far less favourable due to a considerable downturn in world economic activity. Not wanting to sound like a politician but........lets be clear........they, AMD, may have to make difficult decisons and substantial quantitive easing may be required to ease any financial hardship which may be experienced following the launch of the most recent product with it's new CPU architecture.

You can't use words like "quantative easing" here......

go and wash your mouth out with soap!  :D

That's what I like to hear ....."Quantitative easing ".....Print more money ...... Bwuuuhahahahahahahahahahha....what a joke

People forget so easy........Gadaffi did just that many years ago after getting into power .....push the inflation to over 2500% over night

Quantitative easing the Australian way was to write out a cheque for every Australian to the tune of about $950 and told them....."go out and spend it"

Stopped the economy in it's tracks from going into a recession by giving the money to the hardest hit.....the population!

The English way was to print more money and give it to the hardest hit........THE BANKS!...BWAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA!
