onboard sound

Have just built upgrade with GA-Z68AP-D3 using i7-2600k, 8GB ram, 650w psu, 500Gb sata, nvidia560ti graphics card.  windows home premium 64 bit. All works well but I cannot get any sound out at all from rear out. I get the usual beep to say post ok during boot sequence. Any one have any ideas. PLSE.

  Have you visited "Device Manager" to see if there's any problems or missing device drivers ?

Hi

The thing that is confusing you is that the sing;le "Beep" that happens just after POST to let you know that everything checked out ok is made by the onboard buzzer not the audio output.

Make sure that the Azalia Codec is enabled in the BIOS. If it is then have a look in Device Manager and see if there are any warning signs against any of your hardware.

Also make sure that it isn't something stupid like the speakers not powered or muted in the system tray or something along those lines.

If you are using onboard sound and have updated to the latest driver you could try retasking the sound through the Realtek HD Audio Manager.

Hi and thanks for all contributions. I know ref. the beep on start is confirming boot ok. the codec is enabled in the bios and device manager not showng any yellow markers or speakers muted. I tried to install xonar ds pci card in slot pci2 but that froze the wireless mouse!! so had to remove it. slot pci1 is taken up with wireless wi-fi card. Any other ideas??

  That wouldn't be a Logitech mouse and keyboard would it ?

Both mouse and k/board are microsoft.

Have you got them (the receiver) plugged into the rear ports on the I/O panel of the board ?

Make sure that you are using the latest drivers and latest BIOS version.

Just for further clarification, in order to help resolve your issue, the Xonar DS PCI card is this the same as the one on the link below:

http://www.asus.com/Multimedia/Audio_Cards/Xonar_DS/

Therefore if it is the one, produced by another MB manufacturer, there appears to be downloads which may be helpful. I can't seem to find any information on the Xonar.com site, so have a look and post back.

to dark mantis, the speakers are plugged into the i/o socket on rear. there is an onboard header socket for use of front speakers that I am not utilising. I know we cannot turn back the clock but it used to be straight forward.

No, I am afraid that you misunderstood me. I was referring to the receiver for the keyboard and mouse.

All is now resolved. But don't ask me what i did but after much head scratching and selecting different options the on board realtek came alive. Thanks for all the help.

Obviously that telepathic message I sent helped!  Sometimes it just happens that way and it can be a bit of a nuisance as you can't say what fixed it, still at least it is working now.
