Ga-970a-d3 my sad is still at sata 2 speeds?
« on: November 18, 2011, 12:49:52 am »
Purchased a GA-970A-D3 today and I have a coz solid 3 sad which was only giving me reads of 204gb a sec where it should run close to 500 in sata 3? Is there a bios setting or something to engage sata 3? H ow do I know if it is on?

On that board all the sata ports are sata3 so no setting for it. Did you do a fresh install of windows and us ACHI to set up your ssd.?

Well it seems that is the newest firmware also it is slower than the old 2.11 firmware but should solve some BSOD issues they have been having. What controller are you using as in , amd, intel, sandforce?

Also you state you are running in ACHI mode are you alos running in sata mode or is it still set to ide?

Also go to forum search function and type in SSD slow performance are alot of threads on it and might be something in one of them that will help.

Actually yes there are. Kinda lame of me not to think of it. One of those things you assume. Yes, there is a real difference, it's the data transfer speed. SATA 3 has the potential to double the speed of SATA 2.   Device and mobo support SATA 3 - use of SATA 2 cable will result in 3GB/s .

Didnt your new motherboard come with sata 3 cables?

As for controller you would of had to install one of them otherwise you are using the regular windows controller and that would be slower.  For that you will have to wait for absic or dark mantis to give you an answer on i dont use a SSD though i have researched them i use the amd controller for my raid set uo and i am wondering if you should have a downloaded controller if you should it would most likely come on a disk with the ssd drive also.

Hmmm from what i read just now the controller is part of the SSD so no download required. I hate to put you off but we have covered the most common issues so it seems you need to talk to absic or dark mantis they should be on in a bit. Dark is usually on about this time so hopefully he will drop in if not absic comes on a bit later. Sounds like you have all the basics covered unless there is a setting in bios i missed but if you have it to ACHI and sata then you should be good there
