GA-MA790FXT-UD5P ecc options
« on: October 25, 2009, 10:02:08 pm »
Hello,

I am thinking of getting this mobo instead an Asus M4A series board, but I want
to use ecc memory.

The Asus mobos have extensive ecc options (eg. "scrubbing", "chipkill" etc) and I am
wondering if the GA-MA790FXT-UD5P has the same sort of options to tweak the
ecc memory.

Can anybody tell me what the ecc options are for this mobo?

Screenshots would be really nice.

The revision 7 BIOS adds ECC features (inc., off the top of my head, Chip Kill and various scrubbing options) - but I've found that Windows 7 will fail to resume from hibernation if 'MCE (Machine Check Exception) on ECC error' is enabled.

In fact often, an attempt to resume will result in the machine powering off completely, and showing no signs of life (other than the blue power lights on the board, which were lit) until the power is physically removed from the PSU for at least 30 seconds.  The PSU is high-quality and works perfectly in a number of other systems, so this is almost certainly a motherboard problem rather than a PSU issue.

As with the other significant issues I've encountered with this board, I've reported the issue to Gigabyte technical support, who report that they've been unable to reproduce the problem.

YOU DO NOT WANT AN ASUS MOTHERBOARD
unless you own an aspirin factory
I just replaced an asus with a Gigabyte UD5P
and when I compare them side by side, the asus is a waste of plastic.

LOL! you would not believe how many bugs are in those Asus boards, they have a "Crash O Matic" chipset.
I played around with it for hours and hours until one of our local techs told me....
the problem is widespread and well known to Asus, but they will not admit the defects.
I bought the Gigabyte board, plugged it in, and ALL of the problems were gone, instant joy!
nothing wrong with any of my hardware, just the motherboard.
I wonder how much it's worth at the scrap yard?

Haha, hope the high up people at Gigabyte see this!  ;) Seems like you're all set up and ready. Plus you now have your front audio up and running ;)

The price of scrap is pretty high atm too! :P

Thanks everyone for the added info about the ecc options, asus boards etc.

I am  looking to get the GA-MA790FXTA-UDP5 mobo to use with a Phenom II X4 945
(95 watt version), ecc memory, SATA raid array,  as an entry-level home web server,
running openSuse 11.2

Any further info , feedback, opinions about the mobo, ecc memory etc is appreciated.
