Trying to OC a Q9550 on ep45t-usb3p
« on: December 11, 2011, 09:37:15 pm »
Trying to see if I can get my Q9550 to 4Ghz. So far I've gotten it to 3.57Ghz fully stable. I'm running at 3.74Ghz right now and P95 is failing.

Q9550
440 FSB * 8.5 = 3740
vcore set to 1.34v in bios, but CPU-z says its 1.312V.
Prime95 @ <60°C

I tried lowering the multiplier like I read in another thread, and it was totally stable at 440Mhz fsb. What do I do next? Bump up my vcore more? Or should I mess with the cpu termination voltage (which is set to 1.2V, stock, right now)

Hi Jivix, ;)

I help you, but I assume you tried it , step by step.
Check alway your temperature...

The fact is the Q9550 have a possibility in CPU-Z, to up to 4055Mhz
With a multiplier at 8.5 and a Bus Speed at 477.1
Rated FST at 1908.2

But your core voltage are setting at between 1.4 to 1.45 ... step by step... check a temp...

I am getting random crashes after a period of time. I am having trouble nailing it down as to what exactly is causing it. The screens graphics all slide wiggly as if you had bad signal on a TV, and the system reboots. When my memory isn't set up properly I usually get bluescreens, which is leading me to believe it is either my CPU or my MCH that is causing this issue.

It'll run solid on Memtest, Linpack, Prime95, but if I do something like browse on firefox for an hour or two, it'll crash for sure.

Hi Jivix,

What is your situation about Bios setting ?

Maybe make this :   (and after ReMake a new setting for oc your cpu or ram...

Hi
...

Try clearing the CMOS before installing the GPU. follow these instructions exactly.

Remove the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.

Once done remove the motherboard battery for at least one hour before replacing it.

Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.

You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Optimised BIOS Defaults.

Make any other changes to the BIOS settings to suit your self like disabling the floppy drive, disabling the full screen logo and making the HDD the primary boot device and then press F10 to save and exit.

Try your computer with a optimized default without OC.

If is okay with other situation like your said : Firefox, internet session, anyting software  .... inform us please. Again Without OC...

Come again here with comments ....

Thanks for the reply,

I use mostly stock bios settings, except I run my boot drive in Raid 0 so if I reset bios settings to default I can no longer boot to windows (without re-enabling raid and setting it up again). I've done just that, and it doesn't crash at all, ever, when at stock settings. I've tried going from both fail-safe defaults and optimized defaults.

I have cleared the CMOS and upgraded the bios to the newest F2, but it doesn't seem to help overclocking. The only difference I noticed with the F2 bios is the CPU clock drive is now 700mV (I think it was 900mV before).

What I'm trying to say is although my system is stable, I must be doing something wrong when overclocking as it is causing the system to hard reset every now and then.

My ram is Corsair Vengeance DDR3 PC12800, running @ 1.5V. I noticed that this board cannot handle running the ram at 1600Mhz, at least not 4 sticks of them. It won't even post if I try to bring them above 1333 Mhz, and if I don't boost MCH to 1.22V or higher, it'll bluescreen in windows at anything above 1066Mhz. This sort of baffles me, because at stock settings the memory is running at 1333Mhz, but the MCH is 1.1V. What the heck is going on?

Hi

I would suggest making sure that you are running the best BIOS version in the first instance. It may not be the latest one, you will have to do some digging to see what is reported as the most stable. Once located and downloaded use QFlash to run the update and make sure that you disable the Keep DMI Data option on the homepage. I would then suggest syncronising the two BIOSes so that they have the same version on each.

Next clear the CMOS by removing the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.

Once done remove the motherboard battery for at least one hour before replacing it.

Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.

You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Optimised BIOS Defaults.

I have noticed on my P45T ,that when using 2x2 mem sticks I could acheive higher oc.(1580mhz)
Now that I added 4x2 mem sticks( 8gig)I cannot go that high.( 1420mhz)
All other P45T mobos have had newer bios released making the board more compatitable with memory.(3 other P45T Gigabyte mobos)
This board only has had two bios released(F2 beening highest)none of the two were for memory.
So I wait !
F3 when are u coing out?
Running stable at 4x2 8gig total 1333mhz. >:(

That is always how it is when overclocking. You should never fill alll the banks as it will limit the speed you will get. Only use two of the four banks. ;)

Reading a forum post at Tweak Town lead me to change the MCH freq. latch to 2.66/with a multi. at 4.0A. This setting has got me linked and synced at 1600mhz stable with 4x2gig memory.
Seems that the P45T doesn't like the 3.33B orD memory strap over 400FSB.
Right now I will keep this configuration. Will try for higher down the road. :)
