Z68X-UD3P-B3 - System failed to boot due to o.c.

Hi.

I have a new system with the above board, an i7 2600k, and I had a single corsair vengeance 8gb kit 8-8-8-24@1600mhz.

I purchased and installed a second identical kit, and now I get this message on boot-up every 3-4 times, and mem speed is reset to 1333@9-9-9-27. Mind you, when I get this, all I need to do is enter bios and save settings, and it will boot normally and work flawlessly, even under stress tests and gaming.

I am using the F7 bios (latest for the board, I think), and have tested the ram to a reasonable level (4 passes, not 10).

Is this a common problem with an easy solution?

Hi and welcome to the forum,

A 16Gb kit would be better as they are guaranteed to work at the same voltages and timings this helps to ensure compatibility. Also, it is recommended that 10 passes for each RAM module in slot one........it may take a while but at least you will know whether they are faulty or not.

I've just started running this board but with an i5 2500K processor and have not come across this issue.

It might be worthwhile reflashing the F7 BIOS with QFlash but make sure you disable the "Keep DMI Data" before actually flashing BIOS as this might help.

Once you have reflashed the BIOS it would also be a good idea to synchronise the two BIOS chips so they hold the same version. You do this by shutting down the PC then when you start up press the "Alt" + "F12" in the same way you press the "Del" key to enter BIOS. This will, if done properly, bring up a message asking if you want to flash the Back-up BIOS chip. Press Enter to confirm and the main BIOS will be copied to the backup chip.
