GA-K8NXP-SLI: Updating BIOS
« on: December 19, 2011, 10:00:43 pm »
So I noticed there are a bunch of BIOS updates for my board...

http://ee.gigabyte.com/products/page/mb/ga-k8nxp-sli/download/bios

I'm currently using version F6 because I've never updated it. I downloaded @BIOS and let it update it itself but it failed at 50%! Luckily the Dual Bios thing kicked in after switching my power on and off a few times and the Backup BIOS overwrote the corrupted one.

Why does it fail at 50%? I'm using Windows 7 (x64). I don't have a floppy drive so I don't think I'll be able to use Q-Flash? Has anyone succeeded in updating this board?

The only reason I want to is that when I boot up it says next to the Memory Testing bit something in the region of 3GB of RAM when in fact I have 4GB. I thought maybe a BIOS update might fix it.

Your operating system is what decets ram go to my computer and right click it and go to properties and see if it says 4 gigs of ram or less.  That being said only time id update bios is when you are having a problem or need it to support a different processor. Also dont use @bios for updating bios please use QFlash  and make sure to uncheck keep dmi box.

Hi, so I managed to successfully update my BIOS. Created a bootable DVD with the update on it and then ran it from that. Went completely smoothly. That @BIOS program should come with a hazard warning.

I agree but as always with a computer people usually find workarounds is why there are forums after all. Glad it went well for you. Did it by chance solve your problem with the ram?

I would completely agree with your last line. It causes more problems on the forum than practically any other single program. Glad you managed to run the update though. ;)
