To B3 or not B3 that is the question!!!
« on: January 06, 2012, 08:36:33 pm »
Hi Folks,

I have noticed that some Z68 boards have a B3 revison, yes...and I know why, those that have do dont have the Lucidlogix switchable graphics feature, whilst motherboards like the GA-Z68XP - UD3P do. Is it the case that the B3 revison is the older motherboard? Ihave these motherboards in mind:

On the otherhand the Z77 chipset will be launched later on in the year with Gen 3 PCIe slots:

Could be worth the wait.

Hi teknology

I think you have got hold of the wrong end of the stick there somewhere. The B3 stands for build number 3 with the B2 being the normal standard build 2 that is after the prototypes.  The B3 was made  especially noteworthy on the P67 boards with the problematic Cougar Point chipset that Intel had problems with. Hence the B3 revision was made public so that people knew the difference between boards that had been produced with the new improved chipset and the older troublesome board.

The B3 is just the build revision number.

Hi Dark Mantis,

Ah...well....um.....er...yes!!! :D I take it those Z68 B3 boards are older than the GA-Z68XP - UD3P  for example?

To be honest I have noticed that some seem to now have the B3 suffix and some don't. I can't really explain why the difference at this point in time.  :-\

Yes....I don't know whether to wait for the Z77 chipset or go for one of the Z68 MB's.....which has probably matured.
