970A-UD3 running slow!

970A-UD3 running slow!
« on: January 08, 2012, 10:37:36 pm »
I just finished this build.I am running a dual boot, but only have xp installed atm.The reason I say its running slow because it takes 3 to 4 minutes to unzip a 700mb file.It also seems to lag when running more than one program.I am using  955 cpu from my other build.I had the same 955 oc @3.5gig on my older gigabyte 790 board, and I did not have any of these issues.I could unzip 15 files at a time quickly. I have this overclocked @3.8 with 8 gigs of ram.I lowered the voltage by .5,so the cpu vcore is @1.376v.I am not getting any voltage drops. It will fluctuate from 1.376-1.392 doing tasks.I did mem test 1 stick at a time, and  ran 8 passes on each stick with no errors.I have all the power saving features turned off on the motherboard, and the indexing  service turned off in xp.I also used Western Digital program to check my drives for any errors. The drives passed the test ,so I dont think its a hard drive problem.I ran prime 95 for 35 minutes.Max cpu temp 40C.No errors

I am going to format the drive and see if i can get better results.I am using my own sound card ,and nic card,so I turned off those in the bios for the motherboard.I am also using a Evga GTX 560TI.

What is the best way to install the drivers for this board.I want to do a clean install. From what I see I only need to use these 2 drivers for the motherboard. This board has the F4 bios.I also loaded the fail safe default settings in the bios to see if that would  help .No luck.Even with the default settings I am still getting same problems.

I am using sata port 0 and 1.The onboard SATA controller is set to enabled, and onboard SATA controller to Native IDE.

I finally figured out I have a bad HDD.I have (2) 750g WD drives. Both are 18 months old.I just lost  320g drive, but that's another story.I used the WD utility so I could do a low level format on both drives. One drive,no problem. The drive in question would not even go through the process. It would not respond. It worked, but just way below standard.I switched drives and was able to unzip a 1 gig file in 45 seconds. The later 4- 5 minutes.

I just RMA'd the drive to WD.My drive spec =750g,7200rpm,32mb cache.I saw a WD-750g,7200rpm,16mb cache for$230.00 USD.I would hate to buy my drive @32MB cache.I'm sure its over $300 :(I paid 80 USD a piece when i bought this new 18 months ago.I will be looking at a SSD drive in the future until prices go down.Thank God  for a warranty.Hopefully this will work out.

Glad that you have got it sorted out now and as you say thank god for warranties! The prices of all drives are ridiculously high for the present because of the floods.
