Hi there,

would really help if you could post back with a few more details of your hardware and how you have installed things so far.
Also if you have made any changes to the BIOS?

Hi there,

You can download the BIOS for your motherboard from here: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3809&dl=1#

If you are correct, that you are currently running with the FB BIOS and an FX6100 this could be the problem as officially the FX6100 isn't supported until the FD BIOS and you will need at least this version for full support. You will need to use QFlash to run the update and I would recommend disabling the "Keep DMI Data" on the QFlash homescreen before you actually run the update.

If you are not sure how to flash the BIOS with QFlash please check here: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,2441.msg13929.html#msg13929

That said, I am surprised that the board even starts if you do have the FB BIOS as usually, without the correct BIOS for the processor, you would get no POST at all.

3 posts ago you quoted the number for the FB bios. you did not say you changed it ??? FB bios is not compatible wit the FX6100 but as absic says its surprising you even got past post with that bios version . install the latest bios ,at least FD . use qflash ,not the installer that came with the bios or @bios . have you altered the bios file at all (modded) as this can also cause major problems if not done right .
bios are surprisingly complex to those who are not experienced at biulding PCs ,if you are not sure of what you are doing ,get some help from a local computer shop .

I had this problem when i first got my pc. I have pretty much the same specs, except less ram. I had to change the harddrive, in bios, to IDE. Then it installed. Maybe it will work for you aswell.

sounds like it may be a configuration problem ,have you tried removing the graphic card and install using the onboard graphics.

Something just doesn't quite add up here. Firstly you say you don't know much about computer specs and then say that you have built dozens of machines :-\

apparently i dont have the right chipset it says

* For Windows® XP, please must install AMD Chipset driver version 8.51 or later.
** Please use ATI Hybrid CrossFireX certified VGA card (i.e., ATI Radeon HD 2400, 3400 series).

but how do i install that with out an os installed? useing qflash it doesnt show up on the screen

getting somewhere ,as I said earlier remove the graphic card ,and set the bios to safe defaults it should load the os no problem ,you can delve into what to do about the graphics later ,but the card you have is not compatible with crossfire on that board (to the best of my knowledge) you need a 5450 chipped card with crossfire and direct x 11 certified . if your board is configured for crossfire , that could be your problem .
gigabyte mainboards are usually easy to set up ,the trick is in knowing your way around the bios settings ,if you get problems like this its often a good idea to start install with minimal hardware installed .

id rather not take any cards out the company i have brought from have assured me the card is compatible is there a way to update chipset drivers without an OS?

the problem is i need to install the new chipset on the motherboard but the manual says i need to install the OS first and i cant do that with out the chipset  so how do i update the chipset without an OS?
