No monitor signal after successful flash.

Hello.

I had been having, like many others here, trouble with steam games forcing my computer to freeze. I read a few topics that recommended reverting to a earlier bios version, which i did. Everything went fine, @bios replaced my rev 3.1 fe bios with the fd one successfully. After restart, though, i have not been able to get a signal to the monitor.

The power lights up, the fans all spin and the cd rom opens and shut. I get no signal to the keyboard, though, and my screen just says no signal before turning orange. I don't think windows is starting up either. I've searched a lot of threads here and on the net with people who have had similar problem, but slightly different from mine, but i've had no luck. Has anyone got a clue? Or is my motherboard just bricked?

Here's what i've tried:

* Clearing the cmos by battery many times. Even leaving it out over night once.

* I have no jumper, just two pins near clr_cmos, so i tried to short these with a screwdriver. No luck.

* Changed the graphics card with a older one i have. Did not help either.

* Taken out the ram. Strangely enough i didn't get any beeps when no ram was installed, like some say you should.

As for beeps once i start the pc, i'm not sure if it's beeps or just my computer starting. But it does sound like two barely audible beeps, and having AWARD BIOS that suggests a cmos error. I just can't find a fix.

I brought the pc off novatech so my warranty is void with flash damage as they said in a recent email. So no RMA.

I'll try and answer any questions you kindly have as quick as i can, but i have a busy couple of days ahead of me. So it might take a few hours for my reply.

TLTR Summary: Don't use @bios.

P.s. I'm using a hdmi to dvi adapter, if that matters.

It is possible the you have a failed BIOS update, even more so if you used @BIOS for it. We always recommend the use of QFlash for updating the BIOS files. It is much safer not being reliant on the OS.

Once updated did you load the Optimised BIOS Defaults and disable the Keep DMI Data option when running the update ?

It is possible that the BIOS is working but you have got it set to send the output via the onboard port. Have you tried connecting the monitor to the onboard VGA, DVI-D or HDMI output ?

I believe i must of left keep dmi data checked. Which, i'm not sure how, must be my problem. As for Optimised BIOS Defaults it never gave me a chance to get in bios. After the update was successful it asked me to restart and when it restarted i lost the monitor signal straight away. No bios, no nothing.

I've just tried the onboard vga with my dmi monitor. No luck i'm afraid. I just plugged another keyboard in on the off chance, and that shows no sign of life either. It's gotta be a bad flash. But i'm stumped, i see no other way then leaving my pc to collect dust while i save up for another GA-880GM-USB3.

No beeps either now after i reset the cmos again.

EDIT: Shouldn't my back up bios kick in if my main becomes currupted? I've tried to force it to kick in by turning it off by the plug as was suggested by you on here, i think, in a earlier thread, but it ain't.

OK then. Although you said you have already tried it  have copied the instructions as sometimes it takes a few times to get it to work. Try either way, the timing is critical.


You can kick in the backup BIOS by shutting down the PSU from the wall, then hold down your case power button in and then turn on the power supply button, a few seconds later the board will start, shut off the power supply then.   Then you can turn on the power supply again and power up the board normally and DualBIOS will kick in.


1. Turn off PSU from wall
2. Hold case power button in and turn on at wall.
3. As soon as board shows signs of life turn off at wall.
4. Turn on at wall again and press power button.

Just bought another GA-880GMA-USB3 rev 3.1 motherboard. And would you believe it the same exact problem. No signal to the monitor. I'm stumped here guys.

Could a earlier version of bios on this motherboard cause this to happen? Maybe some conflict with the AMD-FX 6610? This problem happened when i installed a earlier version of bios on my old motherboard, and maybe this new one has the same earlier version of bios.

I've tried using the d-sub port on the inbuilt graphics card, but not the dvi-d port. I have no suitable adapter. Could it be set in bios to use that dvi-d port instead somehow?

I'm really out of my league on this one. Any help appreciated.

I have that board ,and only bios f3 or later supports that processor .you will not get anything on screen with earlier bios firmware  .the only solution for me was to fit an earlier (supported) proccessor "phenom" and then flash the bios to f3 .then put the newer FX processor in .
according to gigabytes cpu support list,  GA-880GM-USB3 rev 3.1 only supports FX-8100-6200-6100-4100 processors,no mention of  a 6610. and the FX proccesors require bios firmware FD or later .
GA-880GMA-USB3 rev 3.1 supports 4100..6100...6200...8100...8120...8150  and requires bios F3 or higher .
in both cases bios not supporting FX processors will not allow any screen graphics .

I would like to say that what jabberwocky posted is quite correct and most likely the cause of you not getting any display on your monitor. The BIOS that you have installed must be new enough to support the processor otherwise you are on a hiding to nothing.

Yeah my bad, guys. It's a 6100. I just copy pasted my spec mistake from the first page.

Looks like i'll have to take it in to a professional and see if they can update the bios for me. Atleast the problem has now been identified. Cheers for your help guys.

I have the same problem.

Specs:
GA-790FXTA-UD5
AMD Zosma 960T
Kingston KHX1600C9AD3K2_4G

For this CPU bios F2 is necessary.
I can install F2 from F1 without problems. (Qflash)
Then video works.

But when I do the next step, install bios F3j from F2, I have no screen. I think video works, I hear the screen go on, but stays blanc.
I need bios F3j to look if I can unlock the 2 cores.

What could be the problem?

It helped me to go back to the F1 bios.

Only too happy to have been able to help you. 

The BIOS that you arte trying to use now F3j is a Beta version and so the problem could be that it is a fault with the BIOS file itself. Are you using QFlash to do the update ?

Have you got a buzzer installed on the motherboard ?

I use a minimum configuration outside the case.

I have a little loudspeaker installed.
It gives the correct beeps, also without RAM and without video. (with F2)

And only installed a floppy disk, so I do use Qflash.

It’s true, F3j is a beta version, but not found any complains on the net about it.

Now I am testing the memory (memtest86), but after 1 hour run no errors.
