CPU temp on Athlon II X4 645 reassurance
« on: January 30, 2012, 07:47:58 am »
Hi

This is my first build and I could do with some reassurance please.

At idle, system health check in the BIOS gives the CPU at 24deg.C and sys at 32deg.C. for the following (no overclocking)

Athlon II X4 645 3.1
GA-870A-USB3
Crucial Ballistix Sport 2x2GB DDR3 1600Mhz CL10 Unbuffered (running at 1300)
XFX ATI Radeon 6450 HD 625MHz 1GB passive
Be Quiet E9 StraightPower 400W
Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme Rev.C with 1 Scythe Slip Stream 120mm PWM at 700RPM
Samsung HD322GJ Spinpoint F4 320GB
CoolerMaster CM690 II - 2 standard case fans, in 1100RPM out 700 RPM

Do these temps appear right?

Where is the sys temp measured?

What is the best software to check the individual cores and northbridge?

I tried Everest which showed the cores at 11deg.C and the CPU at 22deg.C. However the installation was interrupted as it was missing the digital signature. How is the CPU temp measured compared to the core temps?

Any advice/help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi, Scuttle.

Temps seem okay way lower than mine.

I use 'Hardware Monitor' & 'Core Temp' to check my temps. listed below are some links you can try.

http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/

http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

Hope they help.

I am sure others on the forum will fill in any missing parts.

Thanks Ben

Just tried Core Temp. The cores are running at  8deg.C

Easytune  has my CPU at 21deg.C / fan 800RPM and sys 32deg.C / sys fan 1 600RPM. No mention of sys fan 2 though.

Those temps are very low ... Scotsman Huh! ..... open the window and bring your poor PC inside the house  :D

Your Health page in BIOS generally give Accurate readings.....but these will always show only idle loads ....... good for a cross reference though

I'll just leave it outside thanks, saves on electricity trying to keep it cool :D

So what about the sys temp, is that very low too or could it get better?

If you move another 1000miles north it should improve  ;D ..... :Sys temp" ..... to be honest it too is very good ..... if you wanted to experiment, you could add or change a supply or exhaust fan for a higher rated one ....... the fans are rated in CFM...(cubic feet per min) and DBA (how loud) .....If you  pay a little more ....you can find a fan with a higher CFM and still hold the DBA number ...... last thing you want is a hovercraft ;D

Nah, my bees wouldn't survive that far north.

Initially I hadn't given noise a great deal of thought, wish I had now I've caught the bug. I want to put in a Sythe Kaze Master along with some Fractal Design FD 140s 9dB(A) at full whack. Unfortunately I already had already bought the case which leaks noise :( But the rest of the system is reasonable. The sys fan 2 is annoying though as easytune hasn't recognised it So it's running at about 1100RPM. I've tried changing the fan, disconecting and reconnecting all the fans, reloading/upgrading easytune but it just doesn't appear.

With those temps you have already ....... the only way to improve is to move to water.

It is probably due to the fact that SYSFAN_2 isn't the same as the other fan headers on the motherboard and only works at half the speed of the rest.

The Fractal Design FD140s are very nice fans and very quiet too.

Sounds like the best way to takle case fans is to find some nice quiet ones like the Fractal Design FD140s an let them run at full speed or through a fan controller.

One final question then. On CPUID Hardware Monitor,
TMPIN0 35deg.C  System
TMPIN1 24deg.C  ???
TMPIN2 21deg.C  CPU

What is TMPIN1 likely to be?

Ok, I lied. Two final final questions.

Any idea where the system temp is measured and how does that seam for a northbridge temp at idle?

Typical Scotsman ... :) .... Thats what my Grandad Archie Snowden said on his death bed, aged 97 ...... over 5 day!  :D

TMPIN1 Temp is more than fine ...... From memory I think the temp censor is embedded in the chip (or it'll be underneath it) .... shall we pull it apart and see! ..... any questions you have....where here to help.

Many thanks for all the replies, it’s reassuring to know that nothing's burning.
