hi guys i was wondering if a cpu socket could be fixed if the pins were damaged thanx

How bad are they?

Bending metal weakens its molecular structure.

Magnifying glass, steady hand, zero static, good lighting.

Probably better to get a new one, or have it RMA'd.

PS. Plus as Rolo say's you can weaken the pins by bending (re- straightening) them if they are pretty badly bent.

Hi

A lot depends on how badly bent they are and how many are damaged. Often just a gentle brush over with something soft will coax them back into place otherwise a little more firm action will be required. If they are really bad then there is no other action than to replace the socket.

Hi Pierre, nice to see you back on the forum again. Of course F5BJR's idea is a very sensible one especially if you are not very dextrous and don't feel happy about attempting it yourself.
