Smart response technology connecting an SSD

I want to use the Smart Response technology on a Z68AP - D3 motherboard but don't want to use the mSATA interface.
Will it work if I connect a standard 2.5" SSD to a normal SATA connection.
Any advice please?

Hi and welcome.

As far as I am aware you have to use the correct mSATA interface for the Smart Response technology to work. I haven't actually got a motherboard with this on to be able to test it but I am fairly sure that is the case.

You configure which SSD you want to use for SRT and how much space (up to 64GB) you want to use through the Intel RST software; it won't care how the SSD is connected.

If you want to use the same SSD for caching and for system/boot partitions, you'll have to install Windows twice to do it: first on the HDD to install RST to configure SRT (heh), then the real install to the newly configured SSD.

And, yes, you can cache a RAID.
