x58a-ud3r rev2.0 - IDE controller
« on: February 12, 2012, 08:48:00 pm »
Hello,

I've connected an old IDE hdd to see what is on it, but it doesn't show up in My computer, or when I go to diskmanager it doesn't show there either.
It does have power I can hear the disk running.

Anyone can tell me what I have to do?

Thanks!

Welcome back Störung ..... good to see your typing again  :D

Needs registering ....click start....... right click Computer ..... click manage ..... click storage ..... click disc manegment and follow the prompts to register the drive into the OS ..... may require a reboot.

Oops!  Modify button ....... it might also need to be put through the  "Optimized Default" Bios wringer ...... to get the board to recognize it's actually there.

I believe he said it wasn't listed in Disk Management.

Is it connected to the same controller as your other disks?

That what the "OOPS" was for ...  :D .... and yes! he might have the controller "off" in Bios that the driver hanging off.....easy to do!

Hi,

that is what I also thought I needed to set something in the BIOS, but inthere, I coudln't directly find something related to IDE controller  to set on.
When I go to Device manager, I do have Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller listed under IDE ATA/ATAPI-controllers. So I thought then the BIOS is set correct?

It's just an old IDE hdd, I suspect there is difficult to find old sets music on it, wich I would like to recover :p

Make sure that you haven't got the controller set to RAID or AHCI mode.

Do you have ONLY the hard drive on the IDE cable?  If so, or not, you may need to adjust the jumper or location of the hard drive on the cable.

Be sure you set the jumper to the correct location based on where the drive is located on the IDE cable.

CS = Cable Select = Drive can be anywhere on the IDE cable.
Master = Device needs to be on the end of the IDE cable
Slave = Device needs to be in the middle connector of the IDE cable

CS does not always work either, so if that fails use Master/Slave and ensure the device is in the proper location on the cable per what the jumper is set to.  And if you are only wanting to copy over files to a SATA drive, then just use the hard drive only on the IDE cable for now, to make things easier on you.

BIOS settings that must be enabled are as follows:

Integrated Peripherals

Marvell IDE/SATA Controller (White Ports)
GSATA 8_9/IDE Controller (GIGABYTE SATA2 Chip, IDE and GSATA2_8/9 Connectors)  ............. Enabled
GSATA 8_9/IDE Controller (GIGABYTE SATA2 Chip, IDE and GSATA2_8/9 Connectors) ........... IDE

And set the following if you see it near those settings
Transaction Mode ....................... Bypass

It's only the hdrive that is connected to the IDE cable.

-Integrated Peripherals

Marvell IDE/SATA Controller (White Ports)
GSATA 8_9/IDE Controller (GIGABYTE SATA2 Chip, IDE and GSATA2_8/9 Connectors)  ............. Enabled
GSATA 8_9/IDE Controller (GIGABYTE SATA2 Chip, IDE and GSATA2_8/9 Connectors) ........... IDE

And set the following if you see it near those settings
Transaction Mode ....................... Bypass-

I will check this in the weekend, I think that might stand wrong.
Thx! Keep you updated if it works.

Those are the correct settings for IDE enabled, please also note my comments above about jumpers even if that is the only drive.
