GA-H67A-UD3H and Intel i7 2600k
« on: February 15, 2012, 09:10:32 am »
Hi there,

I have a question about processor temperature.
It shows me, with appz Real Temp and in BIOS, arround from 45-50C idle, and
while working about 58C.
Is this normal for that type of processor ?
I have Artic Cooler xTreme rev.2, checked twice, proper installation.

Should i try another thermal paste or ?

System temperature is arround 30C, from power supply comes cold air.

Any suggestions...

Hi

The temperatures at rest do seem to be a bit high with that cooler installed. Are you sure that you have installed it correctly and without too much TIM ?
Too much is as bad as too little.

The only other thing that could be affecting it is the overall case cooling. Maybe your case fans are not set up very well.

I checked cooling system twice, everything is like it should be, i'm not installing my first computer.

If i open computers case, there's not even warm air,
from every device comes cold air,
from power supply,
from 2nd cooling on computers case (back)
if i touch processor cooler it's also cold and air which comes out also cold,

so , i was thinking about thermal paste, but first when i installed,, it was already on cooler, original paste ,
today i have applied one another , which i have, it's not new one, but temperature is the same.

I don't think it was too much TIM,
first it was already original amount on Artic Cooler and second time, i have applied myself and temperature is the same.

Have you got your cooling fans for the case set up in a situation where the front are sucking in cool air and then the rear/top are expelling warm air ?

FidoX, in addition to what Dark Mantis has suggested, can you tell us what operating system you're using and how you have the in-OS power management set up? Also, are we to presume you're running the CPU at stock speeds/voltages right now, and with all the BIOS-level power management features enabled? Clearly if you're running the thing at a permanent 5GHz, this alters our perception of what "reasonable" temps should be! Don't recall how much (if any) overclocking leeway you have on an H67 board, but the power control stuff has a significant effect on idle temps so it'd be informative to know how you have it set up.

Also, if you haven't used it yet, get hold of ThrottleStop. It's from the guy behind RealTemp. Used as a monitoring tool it will tell you a lot more about what the CPU is doing from a speed management point of view. Your idle temps in particular are on the high side - I'm wondering whether you have some background processes or other OS-level issues that are causing a constant level of CPU usage.

Thanks to all for your replies.

No, i don't have any servicers running, it's computer dedicated just for producing music,
not connected to internet, disabled all lan, ports, other stuff.
Latency checker is fine, running for real time operations.

I don't have any extra cooler in front of computer case and like i said before,
everything what i have checked, blows cold air, cooler is not even warm.

It's not overclocked, running at normal voltages.

Anyway, soon i'm gonna get one other cooler to test
"Intel Thermal Solution RTS2011LC", before purchase,
cause this one is still new and i have one friend at store,
maybe , if results will be fine, i'll change it.

System;
Win7 32-bit
4gb RAM (2 x 2gb HP)
500gb hdd sata2
1gb nvidia gt 520

Check with AIDA64 and see what your in windows QPI/Vtt voltage is, if you are using auto with high memory speed, or XMP enabled then this may be set to a high amount and could be causing these higher temps

Yes, that first one shows the actual applied QPI/Vtt voltage, and it's stock default of 1.05v, so this is not what's causing the temp increases.

And that's a huge cooler, so I'm not sure what could be causing your temps other than maybe it's not mounting correctly but looks like it is?  What is your ambient room temps, that matters a little but I can't see it affecting CPU temperature this much.

You could try setting the CPU fan to voltage control, or disabled in the PC health section of the BIOS.  That would cause the fan to spin 100%, which would be cooler but also louder.   Or you could try increasing the PWM slope setting if your BIOS has that when set to PWM control

i have checked twice,
first when i bought it, i have seen online instructions, and it's not first time installing coolers for me.
Then second time today, i have un-install it, applied thermal paste again and temperature is the same like first time,
with original thermal paste applied.

Rooms temperature isn't high, i have computer cases under the table , where is even colder.

And like i said, if i touch cooler case, it isn't warm and from every fan i checked comes cold air (power supply, back fan, cooler fan..).
It's not hot in computer case.

and do some tests . then i'll decide and see.

Is 1.2v typical for an i7 at idle?  My i5 is 1.044v at near-idle (defragmenting a disk right now), drops to 1.6GHz, 36C.  I use CPU-Z + HW Monitor.

You aren't getting much (any?) better than Arctic Silver.

Might just be buggy sensors?  You have to drill into your CPU IHS to be able to test and verify that though, so it's not really worth it at all.

Everything is fixed and figured out, what was the problem.

After second time , when i have checked Artic Cooler, i didn't see anything wrong,
then yesterday i become new cooler Intel Thermal Solution RTS2011LC and while i remove everything from computer chase,
i saw that plastic was cracked on the left side on cooler ,
this part :
http://www.arctic.ac/p/images/articles/e5b8b90f82f06e43943bbb12c03bb0dd_0.png
I didn't believe my eyes, it was placed very carefull and nothing was doing with force,
bad material ? don't know, i returned to store and got good price now for Intel Water Cooler, 50eur,
and temperature is much better now, 35-38C cores, overall Cpu-28C.
