Radeon HD 6950 Multiscreen issue

Ok i bought the Gigabyte radeon hd 6950 so i can use all 3 of my monitors but for some reason i cannot figure out how to enable the 3rd monitor it says it supports upto 4 monitors

Hi and welcome.

To run more than two monitors one of them will have to be connected to the display port.  If the monitor doesn't support this connection you will have to get an active display port to DMI adaptor.

ahhh thats what it is? lol ive got the 3 in all but that port so it wont host more then 2 without the 3rd being the display port and the 4th will still work with the 4th port if i chose to add a 4th at a later time?

I had 2 problems with trying to get my 3 monitors to work and perhaps I can jump on this thread if that's ok since it seems to be the same as mine.  The 1st problem was the 1" black border on monitor number 2 but the first thread I came across here had the answer, thanks.  I have 2 Radeon HD 7950 cards installed in a new build, MoBo is a Sabertooth P67.  I have 3 monitors I'm trying to get working.  Monitor #1 is my primary hooked up to the DVI port on one card and works perfectly.  Monitor #2 is hooked to the same card with an HDMI cable and (after fixing the black border thanks to you) seems to be working ok as well.  Monitor #3 is hooked into the HDMI of the 2nd card with an HDMI cable and does not work at all.  When I go into the Catalyst app to figure out why, it is not even detected.  Can you please help?  A tech guy I talked to said I should be able to use HDMI cables no problem but the LG manual for my 3 24" monitors says something about PC not supported for the HDMI port but one of my monitors IS working on the HDMI port so I'm confused.  Can you please explain what I need to do to get all 3 monitors working and if you have the time explain why one monitor works on HDMI but the other doesn't?

Also, sorry to be a pain, but I can't seem to figure out the difference between just extending my desktop and using the Eyefinity settings.  The instructions and explanations in the Catalyst program aren't very good.

Hi Mooseman basically you have the same problem as the previous poster. Only two monitors can be run without the third being connected to the Displayport outlet. For this you will either need a monitor that natively supports displayport connection or an active adapter.

I've ordered a couple of  active adapters.  I've managed to get all 3 monitors working fine by disabling Crossfire. Obviously that's an unacceptable solution but it works until my adapters get here.  The documentation and tech support from Gigabyte is horrible, according to them the only thing I need to use DisplayPort for is if I'm setting up an EyeFinity environment which I'm not. I can only assume the same goes if you want to simply extend your desktop across 3 monitors.

If you only want to have the three displays as mirror images of each other then it can be done without displayport but if you want three seperate individual screens then you will need the adaptor. In fact in theory you can have any amount up to six screens but not five!
