GA-Z68X-UD4-B3 // PCI-E Slots speed Question
« on: February 23, 2012, 03:03:09 pm »
Hi,

im using a GA-Z68X-UD4-B3 (Version 1, BIOS F9) with the following setup:

The Motherboard Manual states the following regarding the PCI-Express slots:

Quote
 1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x16 (PCIEX16)
*  For optimum performance, if only one PCI Express graphics card is to be installed,
be sure to install it in the PCIEX16 slot.
1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x8 (PCIEX8)
*   The PCIEX8 slot shares bandwidth with the PCIEX16 slot. When the PCIEX8 slot
is populated, the PCIEX16 slot will operate at up to x8 mode.

So with my setup both PCI-E slots should run at x8 mode.
But my OCZ RevoDrive3 PCIe SSD 240 GB is not running at the supposed tranfer rates and states its just using PCI-E 1x

I postet at the OCZ Forums and they told me to go to the BIOS and set the slot speed to a minimum of x4.

Now i've searched the BIOS Config for an option to adjust the PCI-E Slot speeds but havent found one.

Can you help me with this issue?

thanks in advance,

Lunex

PCI-E SDD seems to run at PCI-E x1 - how can i turn that slot up to a minimum of x4 on a GA-Z68X-UD4-B3

UPDATE:

I've switched the graphics card and the pci-e SSD slots:

Now the ssd is running at the expected speed, the benchmark results are great!

BUT my Geforce graphics card is now running on pci-e 1x !

Does anybody have an idea why the second pci-e slot won't work with more than pci-e 1x?

thanks
Lunex

yes when both x16 lanes are populated they will both run at max x8 mode

as for the pcie x1 slots they are exactly that, they wont run at x4 speed because x1 is the fastest!

Please see my attached layout drawing:

My problem is that the PCI-E x8 Slot is only working at x1 mode.
I'm not using the PCI-E x1 Slots at all.

thanks

is the init display first option set to x8 in bios rather than x16? or maybe try giving the qpi/vtt abit more voltage

Make sure that you haven't got USB3.0 set to turbo.

I've read about this.
The Turbo Option isnt available in my BIOS (F9). Ist there but greyed out at "Disabled".
So i tried turning of both USB 3.0 Hosts in BIOS, with no success.
I even tried disabling all sata Controllers as i heard the use pci-e lanes, too.
But nothing helped so far, my SSD still runs only at pci-e 2.0 x1.

Any help is apreciated, thanks,

Lunex
