4GB ram modules on p55 board
«

I have a ga p55-ud3 with 2 kingston hyperx 1600 modules 2x2GB ( running at 1333MHz )
I want to upgrade the memory to 8GB or more
Which 4GB modules will work with this board ?;
in the qvl list the only 4GB module is a samsung which is unavailable
Can i add 2 x4GB kingston to the 2x2GB I already have ,
or is it better to use 4 or 2 identical modules ?
Thanks
Werner

Your best bet on this is to google around GA-P55* and 8GB and see what others are using, or ask Gigabyte Directly below
http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/technical-support.aspx
Some memory manufacturers also list compatible motherboards on their websites for various kits (Like Crucial and G.Skill do), so you could also look up a kit that way and see if it's compatible with P55 boards.
You may or may not be able to mix memory, it's not advised, especially mixing different sized modules. If I were you, I would look at a 1600MHz kit of 2x4GB only, unless you absolutely have to have more than 8GB for video editing or something. If that's the case then look at 2x4GB 1333MHz kits and get two of them. 8GB is about all a normal user needs, so unless you specifically know you'll need more than that I wouldn't even consider it.

Thanks
I want more ram for photoshop cs5 ( cs6 )
I've searched the web but most combinations i've found are mentioned with overclocking .
I've read kingston is a good choice for compatability ,
First I'll try the 2x4Gb and see if it's enough
thanks

Well just because those users are overclocking it doesn't matter to you, you only need to look at what memory they used and it'll work for you, especially since they are overclocking it too!
Ya, Kingston 8GB would be a good cheap starting point that is often compatible.

Overclockers mostly use the higher speed memory ( 1600 1800 1866 and on)
You say it's safe to use a slower version (1333MHz) of that brand/model
For 8GB you recommnend 1600MHz and for 16GB 1333MHz
Is that for a better compatibility ?

Yes, it would be safer, as in a better chance of random compatibility due to the lower speeds.
You can try a faster kit, and run it at slow speeds if it boots, that would work just as well, in case you can't get the higher speeds stable.
