Resurecting an old GA-8IPE1000MK based PC - RAM issues
« on: November 13, 2009, 08:30:01 am »
Sent this to Gig to see if they would answer but as its so old guess they aren’t bothered. If anyone could help I would be grateful.
Resurrecting an old PC (in Turkey) with some bits I had lying around in the UK (all proved working bits, including the old PC I started from)

Changed MB from 8S651MP-RZ to the GA-8IPE1000MK. Installed (in A & B channels) the 2x 1GB RAM which was previously tested in the 8S651MP-RZ setup, on power up MB alarmed. Removed the RAM and replaced with 256MB (333MHz) and everything OK.
So why wont it accept 2x 1GB which I know work from the previous MB, also tried them 1 GB at a time but still alarm.
So in short, all is working fine with with 256Mb (333) Ram, but not 2 x 1 GB (333), MB specs say it takes up to 4 GB (in 4 slots), any ideas?
Please dont say buy a real PC cos its in the UK!

Many thanks for you help TIM
Also put 2 x 512(333) borrowed from a freind in to try and it works.

Here a few other details

MB: GA-8IPE1000MK M/B Rev : 1.0 BIOS Ver : F14
VGA : Nvidia : fx5500 256MB
CPU: Intel Northwood  2.8 (p4)
Operation System : Win eXP SP : 3
Memory: Samsung DDR 2 x 1GB 333MHz (soon I hope) But 256 now fitted
(2x 1GB RAM sticks - chip info Samsung K4H510438C-UCB3)
Power Supply: 450 W

Thinking of ebaying a P4 HT 3.2 or 3.4 (800MHz) which would be better with faster RAM which I have back in UK (2x 512 DDR500), but wont be back to Uk until Feb so would like to try to get what I have working for now as its too slow on P4 2.8Gb (533) & 256Mb (333). It’s the RAM that is strangling it, but I don’t want to buy some (seen the price of DDR RAM!) when I have so many bits lying around in the UK.

What is the operating voltage of the 1gb ram? and is the voltage set to that in the bios of your old board.
