Any suggestions for an AMD3 CPU Cooler with a height less than 127mm [5"]?

Hi guys!  Long time no talk!

Ok, building a new AMD rig inside a plexi-glass case that limits the CPU cooler to a height of 5 inches or less [127mm].

I would like the wind to blow horizontal, not vertical, and have at least one 92mm fan.

Any suggestions?

Soar

Hi Soar,

Apart from the default cooler I can't actually think of any given that criterior.  Most low ones have the fan facing the motherboard. The other thing to consider is a small watercooling system. There is one that I am waiting for now to review that would be ideal I would think for a HTPC type installation.

This is the type of thing with a built in reservoir head and small radiator etc. Can be very compact.

Hi Soar,

nearest cooler I can find to match your criteria is this one: http://www.arctic.ac/en/p/cooling/cpu/4/freezer-7-pro-rev.-2.html I haven't tested it or done any research into it so I can't say if it would be any good but I think from the specs it would do the job OK.

Great recommendations guys, but I found a sale on a Zalmon CPU Cooler before I checked back here!

If fits the need barely coming in at a 85 x 112 x 125mm.

Please tell me what you think of this CPU Cooler!

PS I cannot wait to build this new rig in a "see through" acrylic computer case!  I also found a "see through PSU" and I found a site how to make a "see through" hard drive!  I will post some pics when done!

PSS Oh my, I just arrived at 777 posts!  Darn, I should have played the Mega Lotto here...maybe I would have won!

Hi again Soar,

The Zaklman cooler is an excellent choice and I have found they work very well. I used one personally for a couple of years and never had any problems whilst it kept the CPU cool enough and was very quiet.

There are a multitude of customisatons that can make many components with visible interiors. The only trouble with hard drives, if you are talking about magnetic spinning disk type is that it has to be done in a totally dust and damp free environment which is not ease at home.

Thank you DM!

Ok, I will keep your comments in mind as I build this new rig.  Have you any url's to help me learn how to build a translucent computer with translucent components/

Not that I can lay my hands on now Soar as it was quite a long time ago that I was into that side of customising and haven't seen anything recently but I am sure a bit of googling will soon put you in touch with plenty. In will say though that a lot of watercooling parts are transparent so that is another reason for thinking about that route. Don't forget to post your build log etc here though as I am sure there would be a lot of interested people.  ;)

Hi Soar,

I have seen several transparent PC cases on ebay in the past and here is one a quick search threw up this morning: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fantastic-Acrylic-See-through-Computer-PC-Case-Completly-Transparent-5-Blue-Fans-/140734517878?pt=UK_Computing_DesktopComponents_RL&hash=item20c46e5276

Not sure if this is the kind of thing your looking at but it might help.

DD, Danger Den make a lot of the acrylic cases at the moment in the States and are not too badly priced compared to some i have seen. It's just the shipping that is a killer from there to the UK. They use a sort of standard model and then you customise it's features as you go until you are happy with the end product.
