Gigabyte GA EX 58 UD5 / PCIEX_1 vs PCIEX_2
« on: April 01, 2012, 01:00:58 pm »
I have Gigabyte GA EX 58 UD5 and the videocard GTX 285.
The videocard is in PCIEX_2, the PCIEX_1 is free.Should i change to PCIEX 1 ? Would i "see" some improvements ?
Thanks.

Hi

You cannot have the graphics card in PCIEX anything as it isn't on your motherboard.. You only have PCIE slots and the best one for your GPU would be the top x16 slot. Also make sure that you select that as the primary graphics adapter in the BIOS.

I dont understand what you mean.
But i will attach here a printscreen.
As you can see, my graphic card is on PCI EX16_2
Should i move it to PCIEX16_1 ?
Thanks

As they are both PCIE slots and rated at x16 speed it shouldn't make any difference which slot the GPU is in. However unless there is some reason for you not to have it in the top slot PCIE x16_1 then I would situate it here. Make sure that you change it in the BIOS so it knows where to find the card.

I have it in the PCIEX16_2 because i have 1 x fan on the bottom of the case and its very close to the videocard.
But i dont know what to do : should i move it to PCIEX16_1 or should i leave it like it is now ?
Dark Mantis said it should be fine as well, in PCIEX16_2

In theory it shouldn't make any difference which slot it is in but sometimes the top slot does work better and it is the slot recommended for the graphics card especially if you only have one. It is your choice obviously but we both Lsdmeasap and I agree that the PCIEx16_1 is the better slot.

I agree with you.
When i go home, later, i´ll move the videocard in PCIEX16_1
How could i check if there are any differences after i move the videocard ?
Thank you.

There probably won't be any noticable differences after moving it but it should just make sure that it is more stable and stop any errors from creeping in.

Okay, i will move the videocard to PCIEX16 _1
One more question, please ( offtopic )
I have now the BIOS version F9.
Should i update the BIOS to the latest version, which is F 13 ?
What is that mean ¨Support On/Off Charge function¨ ?? See BIOS F 11 version.

Thank you

The "support on/off charge function" is simply the ability to continue charging components like iPods etc by USB even when the computer is switched off. The thing iks though just because it mentioos this there might be a myriad of other changes that haven't been noted but nonetheless added to the update. Generally we normally go by the adage of "if it aint broke don't fix it" in other words if your system is running alright why change it.
